Hi all,

As some of you may be aware, ive been considering upgrading my 9800PRO to a 6800GT (AGP), Thanks for all the great advice.

However, im thinking I should just get a PCI system (meaning new board + vid card). Is this likely to be the best value for money I will get:

GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) 1
£136.95 £136.95
MB-000-AK Asrock 939SLI32-eSATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-000-AK) 1
£49.95 £49.95
Subtotal £186.90
VAT £32.71
Total £219.61

I will use my existing 3000+ with XP120 HS/F. 3200 ballistix ram (512) PSU. Raptor and sell my abit AV8 + 9800PRO.

What do you think guys? I really want to upgrade now :)

ATX version 2 powers supply 580 watts or more.

:( I have this:

Tagan TG420-U01 420W ATX2.0 Silent PSU (CA-002-TG)

If I have to get a new PSU then I will have to leave it and put up with my current system.

I hope it will be OK.

Do you think its worth spending the extra on a Asrock SLI32 board even though I would be getting an ATI? I think i read somewhere that the sli can run crossfire with driver hacks - is that right?

Is the SLI board faster then the AGP model due to it being newier?

Regards

SLi is faster than AGP anyways mate.

If you are running a single graphics card then you may aswell just look for a board that doensn't do SLi/Crossfire as you will not be needing it. If you're an overclocker then you can't avoid getting an SLi/Crossfire board that easily.

I'd also say you need some more RAM, 512mb RAM these days is nothing really, even just for windows apps.
I'm guessing you are a gamer hence the X1800XT in which case you'll notice a lot more of an improvment in your computer if you get 1GB+ of RAM.

Hi,

I chose the Asrock as its cheap - and seems like a popular choice. But there are 3 models available. I would only be using 1 card but for only 10 quid extra wont it be better to get the SLI32 model (can it be used for corss-fire??) for future upgrades.

Please get back to me :)

Regards,

I was under the impression there was a driver hack or something allowing crossfire?

Regardless, would it be better just to get the SLI board for future? I waont have any probs running 1 ATI card anyway will I?

Will order some more RAM too then - is it best to get another crucial ballistix 512mb PC3200 or will any brand do. Will I beable to run dual channel?

Also, has asrock got an offcial support forum?
