I have been going over this in my mind for the past few months.

There is nothing wrong with it but I've got a nagging feeling that I should replace it due to its age.

I'm looking to get a GTX 970 in the next few months, and it requires less power than the GTX 770 I use now, so in that regard it's not like the HX 520 will struggle to run it.

Am I worrying for nothing? What would you guys do?

have a peek inside the psu, if you dont see any bulging or leaking capacitors then it will have many more years of service left in it.
only thing that really fails on PSU's in general is cheapo capacitors or the fan.
hx520 was made by seasonic and as such i believe it used all top end japaneese capacitors in the build.
iv got old enermax psu's still running in old systems over 12 years old and havent missed a beat even though they are on 14 hours a day.

I last checked it over a couple of months ago and all was well.

I hope when I do buy another PSU it lasts as long as this one has!

I see the EVGA G2 750w is on the weekly deal - is that overkill for a gamer with just one GPU?

It seems like an absolute bargain to me but I think the 650w would be ample for my needs?

I built a computer last year for my girlfriend with the HX520 + i7 4770s + GTX 650 Ti + samsung evo 250gb for her interior design course. It still runs like a dream, rendering stuff 24/24 for 3,4 days without any problem. Old but gold!
