ok basicaly should i replace it or not, spent the last couple of hours testing sockets and checking over the rats nest of wires at the master socket.

the bell wire was taken out ages ago so thats that done.

testing at both main sockets and at the end of a 15ft extension all seem to give the same results as far as what the home hub shows up.

Downstream 3,488 Kbps (give or take 100k)
Upstream 448 Kbps
Noise margin (Down/Up) 9.5 dB / 17.0 dB ( give or take 1dB on both up/down)
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 49.0 dB / 26.0 dB (solid never moves)
Output power (Down/Up) 19.3 dBm / 12.3 dBm (give or take .5 on the down stream, up is solid)

so before i go blowing any cash on a new router, probably a billion 7800N anyone got any other ideas as im stumped now, as i said iv tested on all 3 ways and even stripped out all the extensions and ran it with just the master socket wired up and it was still only conecting at 3520 (which iv had while conected in my room off the 15ft extension?!).

im on a market 1 exchange which means im stuck with dslmax for the forseable future, it isnt even 21cn upgraded that got pulled last year for some reason.

thanks for any help guys.

well posted on the bt comunity forums now see if i can get some official support out of them rather than phone india and get passed about like a rag doll.

as for the line attenuation yeah id have hoped for a slightly better speed but being bt and a market 1 exchange there could be someone living in the exchange by now and they wouldnt know.

yeah 100 meters is rather lucky :P

im about 2.5-3km's away, for balance a guy i know who's at most 200 meters closer gets near 8 meg ?!

but while trawling through the bt forums found someone posted with a 43dB line attenuation and they are getting 7mg, so 5mg wouldnt be too much of a stretch i guess.

well stuck a email in to the mods to see if they can drop my noise margin down to 6. this was suggested by one of the tech guys on there so hopefully il get some joy out of it.
