Basically my MSI GX660r laptop randomly stutters in quite a few games, wasnt this a known issues with theses laptops due to the slow hardrives in them.

Do you think MSI would replace the 2 drives in them for faster drives which dont suffer from the dreaded stutter in games, trouble is some games dont stutter as much but others are really bad:mad:

What should i do?

Thanks

I've not heard of this stuttering on the GX660r before, do you have a source where the HDD's are to blame?

I have a GX660r (modified now) but didnt have any stuttering issues, nor any problems with the HDD's when it was at stock.

Standing alone the HDD's in the GX660r are not great performers, just like most other HDD's in laptops. But the GX660r comes with two HDD's in a RAID 0 configuration for pretty good performance!

I cant see how any manufacturer is going to do anything regarding stuttering if your only getting it in certain games.....Far too many variables, CPU, GPU, memory, SETTINGS, DRIVERS, game code..etc....

The GX660r isnt in production anymore, and by todays standards would probably be considered as 'yesterdays tech' So expecting recent games (that are always ahead of hardware) to run like butter can be a bit of an ask.

Fortunately the GX660r has a pretty good chassis for upgrades :)

If it is the HDDs then it might be due to the power management settings on the hard discs - assuming the drives support tweaking APM/AAM then download quietHDD and set APM to 255 and AAM for 208 on AC and 128 on battery. Unfortunatly due to some patent issue or something IIRC a lot of newer drives don't support tweaking it, but its a not uncommon problem with 2.5" HDDs where they are overly conservative on power use and drop into a lower power state or try to spin down when they shouldn't, causing stuttering.

This reply may be a bit late and possibly answered elsewhere. The first batch of GX660r's sold via Overclockers were shipped with rather nasty Western Digital blue drives, which caused major stuttering in games (it appeared to be their eco mode causing the problem). If you search the laptop forum for the original MSI gaming laptop thread from 2010 (37 pages) you'll get the information from there. I replaced my blues with western digital blacks, this solved the issue completely.
