Got vista today and put in my X-Fi Xtreme Audio card. Im using x64 and the drivers are sooooo shoddy. I have no console or any way of enabling features and changing speaker settings :( Should i use my sound card that came with my P5N32-E Sli mobo?

The "audio console" does actually give you most of the functionality, find it in the control panel.

Alternatively, do a search for "YouPax 2007 Release" its a 700MB ISO with a new version of the X-Fi software on it that works under Vista.

Only thing you need to make sure you do is de-tick the driver installation and install the latest drivers from creative as the ones included in the YouPax bundle are quite old now.

I havent had any issues under vista 32 bit and it all installed well under 64 bit too when i tried it for a few weeks (had to go back to 32 bit due to stupid Cisco VPN software..)

I had a nightmare getting mine working too, had to use the Youp pax drivers and creative xp drivers as the vista ones didnt work at all.

More a case of the Onboard has the drivers, the utilities, the advanced functions, doesnt crash my games randomly, the support. And creative have . . slightly better sound, a card whose drivers crash my games, crappy EAX support, disastrous drivers, no advanced options (Not even a mic boost) and customer service which doesnt even live up to its name.

creative have . .
slightly better sound,
Much better than any onboard to be kinda fair
a card whose drivers crash my games, i would look else where to, or use proper drivers then. No crahsing here.
crappy EAX support, Only company to fully support higher levels of eax, so everyone elses eax support is what..worse?
disastrous drivers, drivers are fine, youll find its the software, which is simple to make work
no advanced options (Not even a mic boost) mine does.
and customer service which doesnt even live up to its name, they sent me a new card in 4 working days, seems pretty ok to me.

if your card really is messed up, (heck, mine was i wont argue it aint possible) theres some fixes to do with tinfoil and EMI ness, or shout at creative and they will change it.

They basically said Tough Titties. Dont get me wrong, it was fine under XP 32-bit, vista 64-bit its just substandard. Anyway, i dont like them because of this debarcle (sp?) and nothing is really going to change this. There are a lot of disgruntled people if you look in creatives forums about the Vista support.

Never had any problems with drivers under XP, it just suffers under vista.

Edit: And yes, I do need my ears cleaned . . . . . :D Im half deaf at the best of times. Bloody engineering.

Just give them some time, heck even Nvidia who've had just as long are starting to get their Vista drivers sorted. Kinda. ;)

Oh there is a Mic Boost option too. :p You can select +20bB, under the fancy Control Panel.
