I have just cancelled my service with ADSL24 and gone with BE, with them being ADSL2+ will that mean i get a better speed?

They said to expect 3mb, but i hear a lot of people saying when BE quote a speed its nearly double.

I am nearly 4km form the exhange and currently get 2.8mb.

You are still quite some distance from the Exchange so 3mb/s is probably the best your gonna get for now.

A good website to check your speed is www.speedtest.net.

I took up to 8mb/s with BT and the distance between us and the Exchange is approx 1km and we get 7.2mb/s.

speedtest.net will only give you a (bad) measure of what you get just now. What you should do is get attenuation/SNR margin from your modem and stick it into the guesstimator in the sticky.

I know all that, was just wondering if being on ADSL2+ would give me a better speed or not.

Thanks all the same.

:)

Sorry i rushed it, i have now read it.

Your maximum line connection speed using an ADSL (up to 8Mbps) service is: 3948Kbps

If you are on a Max product, that uses the IP Profile system (sometimes called BRAS Data Rate) if you maintain the above line speed for 3 days or more your IP Profile would be set to: 3Mbps

If your service provider uses ADSL2+ the maximum line speed likely is: 5028Kbps

With ADSL2+ the maximum IP throughput is likely to be around: 4450Kbps

The range of ADSL speeds expected at this attenuation are 3100Kbps to 4400Kbps

Your ADSL2+ speeds are likely to be in the range 3300Kbps to 5600Kbps.
