Should I sell and get some ballistix?

I bought 2 x 1GB OCZ ATI Certified PC-6400 ram a while ago, but after reading through forums and how they are like when overclocking, it seems they are not that good.

I have heard all about Crucial Ballistix on this forum and also read about it in Custom PC and they seem very popular and good at overclocking.

Do you think I should try selling my OCZ memory (how much do you think I should ask?)

Then buy a set of: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

Would this be faster when overclocked and be able to carry more bandwidth then what I have currently got

Thanks for any help :)

Obviously I don't work for either company mentioned. However, in this case I would suggest you test what you have thoroughly before deciding as opposed to basing it on what someone wrote in a forum. If the current memory will do what you want it to do, then I'd see no need in selling/trading/buying etc.

Yeah I suppose what you have said is good advice. It's just for a cheaper price I could have some memory that performs much better, similar to pc2-8500. Seems to be the best price/performance.

I will see what other peoples opinions are on it, but I think the Crucial Ballistix would be the better performer.

Tbh if the OCZ matches your preferred CPU FSB then you should stick with it.

Selling the OCZ and buying the Ballistix is pretty pointless if the OCZ isn't holding back your CPU overclock.

Well Im not entirely clued up on overclocking just yet, but im hoping an achieveable overclock with a FSB of 400 (8x400) to get 3.2GHz on a Q6600. So that would be my memory's limit more or less. However If I did get some ram that was able to do pc2-8500 speeds surely it would still be faster but it would just not be a 1:1 ratio.

Sorry if it doesnt make sense Im new to all this and trying to work it all out.

Thanks for the help.

The OCZ should do atleast 900mhz, and that will take a Q6600 to about 4ghz (450x9). So it will be more than enough.

Tbh you would gain very little from switching to PC8500 and running it faster than the FSB.

Thats interesting, yeah I suppose its fine for the Q6600 as far as overclocking goes as its not going to go that high. The ocz should have a slight overclock in them aswell, hopefully.

So does running memory faster than the FSB not make that much of a difference?

Is it difficult to tell the difference between 6400 and 8500 speeds then. If that is the case why do people buy it, it must make some difference.

Also would running a 1:1 ratio be better or faster ram at a different ratio.

Thanks
