i bought a refurb laptop for £1000 which was perfect at the time as i needed to be portable as i didnt live at home, got a little more for my pc than i paid for my laptop so it was win win.

the refurb developed faults and due to alienwares error i was sent the wrong laptop anyway, so i got a brand new retail replacement with all upgraded parts. now i could make a bob or two with this and what ever i make ive thought about getting back into pc tower builds. I really want to have that feel again where i build it all from scratch.

i already have a power supply and i have an ssd, im not going to contemplate even bothering to get a hdd in the current times, an ssd will do me for now.

so, my main gripe is timing, i want to go socket 2011 but seems over priced at minute, also theres the thing about new gfx hardware round the corner, and also theres this problem of hdd's. is it a good idea to do this ?

heres a build i was thinking, i have aeverything else, ignore the case i just chose one at random.

with what i could get for the laptop, id roughly be left with around £350 spare.

so dont buy a desktop now ? I could maybe settle for a 560ti and then get the new gen at a later date, money isnt really an issue

what psu do you have?

if you're looking at £100 for theh h100 might as well spend the extra on one of the ek wc kits, if you don't want to go custom and stick to closed look go for h80 or below.

i have a be quiet 850 watt b9 gold rated psu so pretty high end.

in regards to the cpu cooler, im not confident with custom kits i dont have an ounce ofa clue so i just wanted the best all in one. i know a custom one will look incredible with the right tubes and lighting etc but i just dont know where to start.

would i have to do maintainance ? ie change the fluid, ive heard all sorts of horror stories, like leaking, fluid turning to gunge, it burning resevoir( melting) ETC

I've not changed the fluid in my current pc in ~3 1/2yrs ;)

they say to change it once a year but as I said I've not done it, no problems with it either.

I did have a leak(killed the maximus formula s.e and sound card, got full refund for motherboard. sound card was 2yrs old) with my first attempt at watercooling(using a swiftech kit bought from here) as I stupidly decided to connect the north bridge(the mb had a built in waterblock on the north bridge) as well, the leak was due to the clips provided with the motherboard.

ive never heard such drivel, people will always tell you the negative but its simple...burning resevoir....pfffftt

water cooling properly is well worth it, go for it mate its well worth it :)

If money isn't really an issue (the 2011 are still overkill though) i'd go for your build with proper watercooling in a decent case (something like an 800d, ocuk do one with the wc kit pre-installed) and then a 560ti to tide you over.

there was a guy on heres thread i was following, his res or something, or pump, the plastic/acrylic piping had melted and had flown through the loop, it was an ek setup. it just really put me off, all those fittings daunt me its like a jigsaw, which is a bad example as im ace at jigsaws haha, it had ruined all his watercooling setup including all res, as the plastic has melted to everything and had gunked up all the blocks etc.

i think i will go ahead and make a fresh build, this laptops good, but, i dunno, i cant explain how good it is to have a full tower to maintain, and, theres so much expanding you can do with new gfx cards, case mods etc.

Here is a plan :)

Use the laptop untill new hardware arrives, then sell the laptop.

In the meantime, if you want to splash out a little money start getting some things that you can use with the laptop, like a really nice monitor, keyboard and mouse, headset etc. Hell you could even get a nice fatt SSD drive that you could use in your desktop when you get one later.

Use those with the laptop and you will keep wear and tear off it for the few months you are waiting around for a while, helping keep it mint and resale value high, then, when you sell it you have half your end rig already! :)

Thats what I did anyway :) ha, except I've kept the m15x!

yeah that will partially be the plan anyway :) i have a nice juicy 128gb m4 already and an external hdd to accompany it. so many decisions haha
