Should I send my GTX460s back?

I have bought two GTX460s and I am really disappointed with the lack of performance increase.

Don't get me wrong they are great cards and will pump out about 10500 points a day which is great. However I find that they have had the knock on effect of making bigadv units almost impossible to complete and if the do complete they are taking a lot longer - PPD drop from 28000 to around 15000 :eek:

A net increase of 8000 PPD I hear you say, well not when you take into account a couple of 8800GTs pushing out 10000PPD with the bigadv unit running

It seems to have been a real waste of time and money and I think I am going to send them back as they are not giving me the increase I thought I'd get

****Edit***** They were delivered on 31st Aug so I have 7 days after the day of delivery to tell overclockers I want to send them back - That will be today

Thought I might get a few people voicing an opinion - never mind

If your interested I've decided to keep them

I have changed the GTX460s for the GTX260s in my wife's machine. With the GTX260s the CPU is pulling 25000PPD

However this has caused a problem as I can no longer connect my wife's machine up to the TV - see this tread - Any thoughts greatly appreciated

OK - You've not got the whole picture. The GTX260s were cascaded to my wifes machine to replace 2 8800gt cards and the GTX460s were eventually put in my machine. I expected to see an increase in PPD from my wifes machine and a small increase from my machine.

I swapped the GTX260s for the 8800gt s before purchasing the GTX460s so my rig ran with 2 8800GT cards for a short time. My disappointment has come from is changing 2 8800gt cards with 2 GTX460 cards results in only 2 or 3 thousand PPD difference due to the fact GPU3 has such a major impact on bigadv

However now that I have swapped the cards around again (2 GTX260s back in my rig and the GTX460s in my wifes rig) PPD is much better - no more whinging from me!

The problem I now face is descibed in the other tread that I thought you guys might be able to help with

Don't get me wrong

As a card for folding they are brilliant if you are not running bigadv. If you are (and in my experience on a i7 920 @3.8GHz) then GPU3 has a huge detrimental affect on bigadv to the point it is hardly worth upgrading.

However if you don't run bigadv or you run it on a i7 with 6 cores and if you can afford one definitely buy one as with a lazy overclock 850/1700/1800 @ 1.087V you'll get almost 11,000 PPD

I've solved the technical holdups with weebeastie as well (remember some watercooling parts only work when fitted in the correct rotation) and hopefully will get that up again in the next day or so.

Any chance of you buying a second?

Its interesting that you as well as Biffa see hardly any or no impact with one card. I didn't think to test with one card (anyone would think I've never worked with PCs!!) - If I get time this weekend I'll give it ago although its unlikely as I'm going here
