Should I swap?

So I have shelled out circa £180 for my FM2+ MITX mobo and 6800k, but the more I look in to benchmarks, the more I see a £110 3220 + H61 mitx combo beating the snot out of it.

Originally APU was an idea, but I have since gone down a 7750 route.

What I am finding is that my MITX case needs more compute power than I thought, as it is running a USB3 Displaylink 1080p screen which has CPU overheads.

Given that the 3220 also has almost half the TDP of the 6800k, should I just cut my losses, sell the AMD gear and get a 3220 set up?

I have the ability to DSR the 6800k for minimal loss, and my FM2+ mobo should sell pretty easily.

Yay or nay?

The problem is that I can't find any information on what kind of processing power displaylink needs exactly.

All I know is that my 2700k has no problem sending smooth 1080p signal to the screen from my main rig, but my 6400k chokes like mad even though the 7750 sends smooth 1080p to my tv when hooked up to HDMI. I would assume that raw power is more important than multi-threading for it, but no-where seems to confirm exactly what is best.

Lock two of your cores on your 2700K and underclock it to artificially turn it into a sandybridge i3, see how it copes?

But if the 6800K does it perfect, just stick with the 6800K?

Good call, I will give that a try. I haven't for the 6800k yet, only arriving on Thurs/Fri.

Woohoo! The 6800k is up to the task of 1080p USB transmission.

Now to see if I can squeeze any extra out of the chip, but at stock it is already hitting 65ºC, and the thermal limit of these is lower than intel right?

The loss of grunt might result in poorer displaylink performance though. I'm sure I can undervolt at least a bit and maintain stock speeds.
