I bought a Silver Arrow from the members market which arrived this morning and there are two scuff marks on the centre of the base. Would this affect it's performance to a degree that i should contact the seller for a refund?

Thanks

Probably need pics to answer this.

I generally lap all my heat sinks so that they are flatter with less grooves so might just need this.

My camera is a bit rubbish so i doubt it'll show them up properly but i'll give it a go. I wouldn't want to lap it really since i've never done anything like that before so i'd probably **** it up.

Hey mate,

I'm not one to mess around when it comes to selling stuff, and will offer you a full refund if you aren't happy (My trust ratings reflect my honesty)

Yes an ever so slight scuff on the bottom of it which must have been from too much pressure when mounted on the CPU (it also left slight marks on my CPU as all coolers do tbh).

This particular cooler has an adjustable pressure bracket which means you can make it literally bond to your CPU lol. I must have tightened it too much and it left a slight mark. I do note it did not detract from the performance of the product as it was very close to my custom watercooling when air'ed properly so its entirely up to you if you want to return it. Its only a slight cosmetic injury and not deep or anything, as I did not think twice to mention it in the for sale thread.

thanks - Umar.

Hiya,

Thanks for that mate. I didn't think for a minute that you'd knowingly sent me a defective product and i will leave positive trust regardless of what happens.

I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow when the light is better to see what people think. I've had a look at some lapping videos and it doesn't appear too difficult, just a bit slow and painstaking.

Finally managed to get a decent quality picture today so i'm hoping someone can say if the cooler's performance is likely to be impaired by the scuffs.

Seriously mate, please feel free to return it and I'll refund you! Your obviously still concerned about it and its not a problem if you do.

I've already opened all the packets for the LGA1155 stuff so please go ahead and try it! - you'll see its a good cooler and now i've sold my watercooling stuff (again!) I'd be happy to get this back lol!

That scuff is nothing it is more a cosmetic issue then a performance issue (once the cooler is on do you see that ? ;)), as the seller told you it happens because of the extra screw in the middle of the cooler, he added a bit more pressure and that is the results and is nothing out of the ordinary with any type of cooler base after it has been used, also thermal paste is abrasive and scuffs up all coolers and the CPU heatsinks. The idea of thermal paste is to fill in the imperfections of the CPUs heatsink and the coolers base and to make an even contact with both surfaces. You are worrying about nothing there mate and it won't make a single difference to your temps once you apply the thermal paste and fit the cooler.

Okie dokey, thanks guys. I'll stop being a big girl and get the thing installed. Sorry for being a pain, Zoomee :)
