I have seen the Witcher 2 now on Steam for a while and seen the great reviews it has. So it has me thinking, although i dont want to pay £34.99 for a game i might not like and would like to start at the beginning, should i get the original Witcher?
Im have never gotten into a RPG and the idea of monsotrs and magic stuff kinda puts me off, but seeing that this series has a really good write up, should i give it the time of day.
Coming to the end of my upteenth game of Shogun 2 so looking for a new pastime!

And on more thing, i see its $4.99 on GOG.com. Will this work for us Brits, and intergrate into my Steam Cat okay?

Thanks

Yes play witcher 1 then by the time you want to buy the second it will be cheap, its not all about graphics!

although the witcher 2 does look awesome hehe..

GoG is independant of Steam, so no your GoG version won't integrate with Steam, but if you like RPGs, once you get past Act 1 which is the weakest, it's a great game in it's own right.

At £3, it doesn't really hurt to try :)

A bargain for £3. Epic epic game and if its not for you (no game can please everyone) then you are only out of pocket by £3. It does start slow (first act is pretty much the tutorial and introduction to bits and bobs) and the combat is very marmite (changed for the sequal with the sword fighting playing out how the fist fighting does in the first so you can guage it a bit more on that). Its a very mature (boobs, themes and how it treats the player). for me the engine still stands the test of time and can look quite pretty but you can see that yourself if you check out some screenies and yootoob vids.

Easily one of my favourite games of all time.

yes - Just Do it :D

Done, purchased off GOG.com
After all, £3 for a potential 40+ hrs of gameplay, whats that, the cost of a pint! Hopefully well worth it, and if not, only £3

The prologue and chapter 1 are kind of boring - try not to let this dissuade you too much. I had to have a few bites of the cherry before being sold on the game but now it is one of my all time favourites.

This tbh.

I picked the witcher up for £2.50 on Steam about a year ago, have applied the high res texture mods and am really getting into it. Fantastic game. By the time I finish it the next will be half price somewhere :D

As others have said, it gets much better as the chapters go on.

It was the same for me to be honest. I have had several attempts at playing the game and simply not gone back to it because of those earlier sections. The early parts of the game are dull and slightly tedious but it certainly warms up later on.

I'd love to buy the second game but I'm trying to hold off until I've completed the first, particularly when I'm enjoying it so much.

For a relatively small company they've done brilliantly with the first Witcher.

I love the game even if flawed on some fronts. I wholly recommend it and hope you enjoy it. ^_^
