I bought an msi gd65 on release and have never flashed BIOS before on any PC.

As im about to embark on clocking my cpu should i get the most recent version of the BIOS installed first?

Im very confused regards flashing and read a little about an msi update that will od the flash for me? Does this sound right?

Thanks for any help !

oh ok, i just thought that as it was now upo to V1.7 and im on 1.1 i could do with updating.

so its not like updating graphics drivers to get increased performance then? i know its not the same, i just mean the principle of the updates. ?

I think it is a good idea to update the bios as new versions address known problems with old bioses. They can release the full potential of the motherboard by adding new features. Make sure you back up the old one before flashing the new one.

Cal.

i would also say update especially if your about to OC it, out of interest will you be OC'ing with the OC genie?

Cheers

I may however try it first, but it won't be my permanamnt OC!

So, whats the best / easiest / safest way for me to flash then?

Personally i would read the changes in the BIOS's and see if it is worthwhile.

BUT MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DO IT IN WINDOWS, USE THE BIOS UTILITY IF THERE IS ONE!

So yeah not to scare you or anything but it can be worthwhile.

I certainly would do it, I was having problems overclocking my old pc and just never really considered flashing the bios, then about a year later when bored I decided to do it, helped me get a much more stable and higher overclock, so in my opinion it is worth it.

After looking at the BIOS revisions on MSI's website, I'd say that judging by the number of CPU and memory related fixes there are, it'd be worth updating now. For many other motherboards (like mine for instance), it is not worth it, as there is only 1 revision (at last check) that fixed something really minor that didn't bother me at all. For others, like yours (which seems to have a ridiculous number of revisions in a short time), it does seem worth it.
