I was thinking about upgrading for abit now, seeing as DX11 etc is here and nvidia's new release isnt really worth the money for performance, do you think its worth me upgrading to a 5870 seeing as that seems to be the best value for money for performance?

I've never had an ATI card before well tell a lie I think I had a voodoo of some sort many moons ago haha, But I'm worried about getting an ATI card because a lot of ppl I know who have had them always seemed to have probs when I didnt with nvidia.

I dont consider myself a fan boy of anything, I prefer to go for w/e is best value for money/performance really - even though the 9800gx2 wasnt lol but I got it at a good price.

I notice that the ATI cards in BFBC2 are buggy aswell right now? load times on my friends PC seem to take forever (I know thats just one e.g) But I think thats more to do with how buggy BFBC2 is than the card itself.

Anyway, just wonderd is it worth upgrading my 9800gx2 just yet or not - thats the bottom line, or should I wait a while because it seems to do everything I need it to atm but upgrading is burning a hole in my pocket atm lol ><

Best response I can give is to ask you, is it worth upgrading your 9800GX2? How's the performance you get at the moment? What's the rest of your rig, what resolution do you play at?

You say your card does everything you need it to, so presumably this means your performance is fine. In that case I'd personally stick to the card you have and enjoy it until prices come down a bit and you do encounter a performance block..

DX11's adoption in releases isnt really enough to make it a viable selling point at the moment, but it certainly will be in the near future as more games come out supporting it.

Upgrading to ATi or nVidia might be a questions, but one things if for sure - 9800GX2 is one of the worst cards ever made - its super noisy, very power hungry, not consistent in performance, huge, heavy, and only has 512Mb of memory. I had one and I sold it for good.

So, if you feel like 9800GX2 doen't deliver enough performance for you, get rid of it asap. Otherwise you might hang out a bit to see what ati 6xxx has to offer. One way or the other you will not be able to upgrade to and decent nv card anytime soon simply because they don't exist.

Thanks for the input, ye I think I will just stick with it - as for the time being I can run BFBC2 on med fine and it looks great, @ 1920x1200.

Cant say I've had problems with any game with it to date, iam running a Q6600 @ 3.8ghz and 4gb OCZ 8500 on a Ip35 Pro. Really intrested in teh 5870 atm is all, seems to be a really solid card and I am so tempted lol.

5850 is by far better value for money, from what I've heard. You can over clock it faster than a 5870 and it will only be about 5% slower than an overclocked 5870. I suppose there is the slight risk of getting one that doesn't over clock well but I'm pretty sure you would be able to get it to atleast a stock 5870 speeds.
