Should I upgrade E6420 to Q6600 or other?

Hi folks, just wondering what your opinions are on uprgading my E6420 to something like a Q6600. It's done me really well and is still running like a champ, but would I notice much difference moving to a quad or something? Any recommendations? I know there's no guarantees, but is it likely to be as easy to get to 3.2Ghz as the E6420?
 
You reckon I'd notice much difference going from E6420 -> Quad core? Mainly use the computer for gaming, but also a fair bit of development (Visual Studio 2005) and a little image editing, etc. Plus all the usual stuff.

EDIT: B T W though, you think it would be worth it when penryn is released and the prices of the Q6600 do drop?
