Should I upgrade from my i7 920 and Asus P6T

Hey guys, must admit its been a while since I've been on here and things move forward so quickly.

I usually try to upgrade my computer once a year since I believe its easier to upgrade every year paying an extra £100-150 than waiting a few years and having to pay out £500-600 to get up to date. However recently I've been far to busy with work to keep up to date with new advances. i.e. Sandybridge cpu's and motherboards.

My question is, I currently own a i7 920 cpu and Asus p6T X58 deluxe motherboard. If I was to upgrade them what should I be moving towards?

I see that intel are still making the LGA1366 processors such as i7 950's however are these now slowly being replaced via the sandybridge LGA1155 processors. Also the same question applys to motherboards - is it time to move on from my X58 towards the the newer formats? If so what should I be moving too.

I generally use my PC for Gaming, Video editing.

oh just to add should i also move on from my VelociRaptor 300GB to a solid state drive as my main drive.

Thank You

What sort of time scale would I be looking at before we start to see socket 2011 motherboards and sandybridge-e chips. If its late 2012 then ideally I'd rather just upgrade to the latest formats now and think about them later on in 2012. Although I do like the sound of quad channel ram and what i heard about the SBe chips.

well judging my everyone reaction, looks like its best to just wait until 2012. I guess the good thing is it gives me time to save up a few more pennies.

Think its time for a complete reboot as i'm finding my computer slowing abit. Im hoping the following will help me until then, the last poster suggested that I move to a sata 3 Solid state drive, will this speed up my video editing and converting and also my gaming compared to my WD Velociraptor drive

thanks for the replies.

Oh, forgot to answer that,

A Velociraptor is still fast, just do a clean install to clear the crap out.

When was the last time you installed Windows?

An SSD would make the system more responsive, but bear in my unless you've got a massive budget you won't be able to afford a very big one. And if you get a SATA 3 drive, you will need to buy a SATA 3 card for your motherboard, because the P6T is too old.

sata 3 might seem like abit too much hassle if im going to just upgrade everything in 6 months. So i'll stick with the velociraptor for now.

Not installed windows for 9 months. Is there a recommended re-install period. I do try to tidy up files etc.. using regcleaner. Although in the last month or two have noticed a considerable slowing. So i think a re-install and clean up is due.

Thanks guys for the replies and help. much appreciated.

i'd stick but if ye really got the itch and wanna twist least wait for bulldozer imo 8 cores better for video editing i guess :)
