Hi all,

I've been contemplating upgrading my current hardware (see signature for details) for the past few months. Now that Windows 10 is being rolled out I've read that changing hardware will cause Windows to re-activate but people have had issues. Therefore should I upgrade my hardware (I would only upgrade motherboard, cpu and ram) before upgrading to Windows 10? what would you do?

your system is fine for gaming, wouldn't change it but if you must then I would do the hardware upgrade first before going to 10.

is it retail W7 you have or OEM? retail doesn't matter as this can be moved from system to system but OEM is tired to the mobo

It's oem then :) thought it was

to be honest I had a OEM version of 7 home premium not being used which was removed from a dead laptop.

being cheeky I installed it on my main rig as I needed a proper copy of W7 to upgrade to W10 and W7 activated once installed with no issues and also the key was for a 32 bit DVD but activated a 64 bit version too.

now on W10.

grab a cheap retail W 8.1 retail key and then upgrade to 10 :)
