Should I upgrade my i5-3570K to an i7-3770K?

I have an Asus Maximus V Extreme motherboard, which can overclock CPUs automatically.

It currently overclocks my Intel Core-i5 3570K (stock is 3.40 Ghz) to 4.4 GHz.

I was considering upgrading the CPU but since the motherboard only supports LGA 1155 CPUs, the only real upgrade is a 3770K.

Look at the chart I made below and help me decide if I should upgrade the CPU.

When OC'd, I can imagine it'll hit 10,500.

I keep thinking on doing this but as I only play games and my i5-3570K runs at 4.4 GHZ at 1.18v (meaning it could probably go higher) I don't think I would personally gain much.

The other reason is the i7-3770K still command decent prices on Ebay. Typically £150-180 so I keep thinking it's better to hold off for a system upgrade instead. I did upgrade to a 980Ti this year and again I don't feel the CPU is holding that back even at 3440x1440.

Your requirements are different of course.

PassMark rates HT more than games tend to. What do you use your computer for?
General use.

I know it won't do much for my 2560x1440 gaming but it may help my light video editing etc.

Just discovered I can sell my i5-3570K for around £95 and buy the i7-3770K for around £180.

I can't justify £85 for the performance increase.

For now I would looking into manually doing your overclock and see if you can get it a little higher.

There are some games that push my 2550K @4.6Ghz to max. Well witcher 3 in novigrad at least.

It'll give you up to 25-30% faster rendering speeds, depending on the I/O system.

I'd first suggest getting a large enough SSD to do all your editing on (if you haven't already) before investing in hyperthreading.

From someone who made the upgrade, it made a difference to my video renders, it helps with my photo editing and I don't have that itch at the back of my mind saying there is better available.

80 is very justifiable for a cpu upgrade.

Im thinking that if you want to upgrade a 3570k, go for the 6600k.

That'd be a lot more expensive and without the gains in video editing. Gaming gains will be marginal, especially given most will be GPU-bound anyway. If he wanted to do it fair enough, but if £85 is putting him off then I don't see a several hundred pound change for little gain as a good option.
