as title suggests, wondering whether its worth it to go upto a 570gtx from my 470gtx, or should i go another 470gtx for sli :)

but bearing in mind as well as performance increase to price ratio, power draw is also a main concern for electric bills.

im open to cunning suggestions.

470 SLI if you can find another one cheap, or its looking like another viable option would be 6950 crossfire and sell the 470 you have, tho I'd go with the 470 SLI myself... when overclocked they can run the latest and greatest very close on performance while costing a lot less.

PSU is a bit of an issue with GTX470 SLI tho, they can easily get through the best part of 600watt at stock with an i7 setup and when OC'd to 800MHz your looking at atleast an 850watt psu to be comfortable.

It wouldnt be worth switching to a 570, still pretty expensive tbh. Id wait and see if 470 prices fall, then add another. They will draw a lot more power though.

cheers for your input pal :)

i was thinking the same, but temps and energy bills have been alarmingly high lately as its on 24-7 as its a 24-7 studio, but i guess any high end card your going to have high power draws.

i have a tx850 so i hope psu wont be an obstacle

hmm dilemmas :( always want the latest and greatest :P but those 570's are damn expensive to justify the menial increase of performance, if they were direct x 12 or something then yeah, but there dosent seem to be much tech in new cards, just more efficient clocks and maybe more shaders.

That psu will be fine, i use the modular HX850w, tbh, for gaming you dont even need them clocked as high as 800mhz, i run mine daily at 750mhz on stock volts. Only ramp them up to 800 for benchmarking.

Corsair 850 should be more than fine.

If you disable SLI and leave power management profile on adaptive when your not gaming then the 2nd card drops down to 50MHz and hardly uses any power when idle - bit of hassle tho. Its probably possible to get that working without disabling SLI too my 120Hz panel is probably screwing things there a bit.

Indeed even on default clocks they power through everything I can find to chuck at them with ease.

Yep, the only reason i run them clocked is because they run as cool as stock, also handy as i like to run bc2/moh maxed with 32x aa.:D

Probably overkill, but I can run 64x AA with great performance in a lot of games so might as well do so, tbh the only thing thats really different is things like overhead cables which are nicely smooth instead of running patterns on the edges. I prefer 32x2 TRAA or 64x4 TRAA over regular AA tho as the whole image looks sharper and cleaner.

is aa what sharpens the image as a whole ? i thought it was just on the polygons visible edges, also my damn typos, right so so far im contemplating 470gtx sli, wont they both just idle at 50mhz if im not gaming ? thats ok i guess as i only game around 2-3 hours in the evening.

would an upgrade to 6950/70 be any good ? if so ill sell my card in the mm, i think a 6950/70 would be justified. or maybe not, am i clouded by GAS syndrome :P
