I know nothing about parts but I have some extra money kicking about & was wondering if it would be worth upgrading my GPU (currently using a GTX 680) any thoughts or recommendations?

Current PC Specs:
  • Asus Rampage IV GENE
  • Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz
  • 2GB Gigabyte GTX 680 Windforce3X
  • 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600MHz
  • OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold' Modular
  • Samsung 500GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s
thanks for your time.

970/980 is a fair jump in performance, is your 680 struggling?
Even on newer games @1080, can't see you needing to drop many settings to make it playable (if any at all?? no idea, i drop my settings to low)

Your GPU can easily run any game at high details on 1080p, I don't think you need an upgrade.

If I were you I'd wait until next year and upgrade both CPU and GPU.

If it's a case of you'll spend the money elsewhere if you don't spend it on your PC and you want to spend it on your PC then get a card with a minimum of 4 gb's of ram. Personally I'd try and hold the money a bit longer but if not a 970/980 or maybe a 6gb 780 (Strix?), You'll be better served getting a 900 series though.

thanks for the reply's guys theres no theres no real rush or pressure to buy a new card, just wonderd if it would be worth doing :) im also about to build a PC for my brother & thought about giving him my current card (if i upgraded mine) to save him some money (also giving him my old SSD) but its not a big thing

I have a similar card and have been debating whether to get a 970 or 2nd hand 780 / 780ti. Personally I think I'll wait until the 20 / 16 nm cards and get a decent upgrade.
