Should I upgrade my opty 146?

Hi,

I've been out of circulation for a while on all this PC upgrading/overclocking malarkey for a little while. My question is, should I upgrade my opty 146 @ 2700 for an x2? I notice the x2 are fairly reasonnably priced, I was thinking of a x2 3800 or x2 4200.

What do you folks reckon? Is it worth upgrading (sticking with 939 for the mo')? Or should I consider going to the dark side and trying to understand all the hype round the devil's products (intel duo stuff)? Of course then I have to buy a new mobo, memory, etc...

Any advise gratefully received.

What is giving you the upgrade jitters? What is too slow?

If it is gaming performance you find lacking a graphics card upgrade would prolly give you more than a dual core, depending on what you have now (the 7800 GT?)..

I also notice from your sig you only have a gig of memory, if your playing a game like BF2 that is another thing that might be more worthwhile.

No jitters really, just that x2 prices seem to be ok right now and I've saved some pennies. I used to be a bit of an upgrade addict, but I just want something that will keep my PC working acceptably for the next year or so without wasting my money.

theres no way that anyone who uses this forum can upgrade now and leave it for a year anyway. nut yeah an x2 would be noticeable if you do any sort of multitasking.
