Hi all. I have a problem. I bought using an auction site a second hand Asus 480GTX GFX from a pc company. With it they offered 12 months warranty.

When I first installed it I kept getting a message with regards to the drivers stopped working then started again. Also pixelating at desktop. I play EQ2 and have gone back to WOW (lastnight infact) and with everything on ultra I get about 3fps and it is very laggy, however if I turn everything off it runs better.

Here is my setup including USB components

M/board Asus M4A79T Deluxe
AMD 965 Phenom 3.4ghx x4
4GB Corsair XMS memory
LG Super multi Optical drive
WD 500GB Black Caviar HDD
Corsair 650w HX PSU
CM Storm Scout

Fans and USB items.
Keyboard Logitech G15
Speakers Logitech Z10's

Fans Side 120mm Enermax red led
Rear 120mm CM red LED
Front 120mm CM red LED
Top 120mm CM normal

I have checked Nvidia site who say 600w psu is enough and I have done the Corsair test to see if my current psu is fine.
Before I but a more powerful psu I wanted to see if you agree or can see what I may have done wrong.

Thank you

Terry

Corsair 650w HX PSU is enough, have you uninstalled previous driver completely? and which you are using now?

Have you tried different driver versions, your current psu is a very high quality unit thats more than enough for your rig. I dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but their could be a possibility that you were sold a dodgy card, there are quite a few dodgy sellers on auction sites.

Thanks for the quick replies. My previous card was a HD5770 I uninstalled the ATI suite and drivers via programs and features. I am aware of the possible issues with buying second hand but it was through paypal.

I have just been to ASUS support and used their Recommended Power Supply Wattage Calculator and they suggest minimum 700watts.

when I search from windows start menu there are not ATI files to find.

Forgot to say, I have tried both Nvidia and windows generic drivers. My current driver is 8.17.12.6099 dated 16/10/2010

try looking at REGEDIT and in APP date for ATI files, however I doubt it will cause big issue!

Use advice above, download couple NVIDIA drivers and try them, That' what most people do! Different drivers better (somehow) for different GPU's!

Regarding psu's, gpu manufacturers tend to over spec psu requirements, i run sli gtx 470's, gigabyte reccomend a 900w psu for theese, running fine on an 850w and the cards are overclocked.
