I have the creative soundblaster xtremegamer. I think its like 5 years old and might be giving me problems. It does work but in powerdvd i get a crackle sound then my rear left speaker gains a lot of sound. It has happened in games aswell though. I looked for a driver update but its been 2 years since they last updated the drivers. So im thinking of a upgrade.

My speaker system is a Creative 5.1 T6100. I like my Blu-rays and FPS games what sound card would be ideal for me?

Unless you are wanting to buy a new sound card, you could try using PAX modified drivers first. You'd have to use a driver cleaner first to clear out the old files left behind. Probably worth a shot if you are only really considering a new card because of the issues you are getting.

If you don't get any joy with using the PAX drivers, then obviously, buying a new sound card is the way to go. Creative's new Soundblaster Z is worth considering. Most feedback has been positive. If you'd rather a change from Creative, then a Xonar D1/DX is a great sound card.

There are cheaper options of course. Namely, the DG/DGX and DS/DSX. DG/DGX is a very good budget buy for those who don't want to spend a lot. There are some people who don't rate it though. Many seem to be people used to an X-Fi sound card. Understandable, as the X-Fi cards started at around £50, so that is twice as much at least as the DG/DGX. A £20 budget card can't really be expected to sound as good as one costing £50. The D1/DX is certainly worth the extra £30-£40 over the DG/DGX.
