Hi Folks,
I have a hankering to upgrade (budget of about 2K)
Should I wait and see or go for it ?

Current PC spec in sig, it runs most stuff I play reasonably well (at 1920 x 1200)

Wait for sure.

Your CPU is overclocked and so you are sorted on that front.

Plenty of RAM.

Do you have a SSD?

I would wait to be honest, im still running a I7 950 @ 4ghz and just replaced the GPU with a 970 so keeping the rest for a few more years yet

if you feel like you must buy something then maybe a GPU but if it runs games fine then leave it.

the rest of the specs are fine and maybe a SSD if you don't already have 1

Hi Folks,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have 2 x 120G SSD's , 1 x 2TB WD black HD and 3 x 500G samsung HD's

AMD 300 series GFX cards are due early next year, a single one of those will likely be quicker than your two GTX580s.

then I wouldn't worry about a SSD either, I have the Samsung evo 250GB drive and have no issues with it at all.

GPU should be fine for a bit longer as your running them in SLI, if you get gaming issues etc I would look at replacing the GPU but till then I would stick with what you have.

these forums are terrible for making you want to upgrade! lol

I wouldn't bother upgrading, it sounds like you just have money burning a whole in your pocket, rather than a "My PC isn't doing xyz, and I'd like it to"

Upgrade when you want to do something that your PC can't do, or when it feels slower than you'd like.

How about spending the money on a home server instead? You could do it for a hell of a lot less than £2k, but it would be an interesting, different-to-your-pc project if you've got an itch to play with some hardware? Plus it could actually fulfil a purpose :)

Other than that, a nice AV Receiver and decent 5.1 or 7.1 sound setup would be a great upgrade: good sound can really improve the gaming "experience", plus music and movie watching. £1000 will get you a nice setup here.

Then next year grab a 4K monitor and a AMD 300 series card, and job done. Your PC will be fine for at least another year or so.

I already have a home server and media PC
Got an awesome large screen tv (in lving room) with a pretty decent receiver and speaker set-up

I was considering a decent 3D screen but dunno if it would work well with most of the games I play (flight sims , a lot of DCS world)

Sounds to me like an upgrade would be pointless, then: I can't see any useful way for you to spend £2k, or even a significant chunk of that, right now without wasting money for very little gain.

Not trying to be contentious but I recently upgraded from a 2600K and also had 580 SLI.

I'm having a lot of fun with my new set up, yes I could play most games at decent settings 1440P but now everything is running at max and looking glorious at 144GHz.

I just thought why wait?

If you were to always wait to upgrade to the latest and greatest you'd never upgrade anything.

With my old set up 1440p on Ultra Mordor used to benchmark at 47 now i'm running it at over 130.

Dragon Age: Inquisition benchmark was running at 38.4 average now it's 77.8

Yes the games were perfectly playable before but now they are awesome.

Just need to get all my old kit on Ebay now to at least offset some of the damage :)
