Should I upgrade to 4790K?

Hello there.

I own a 4690k, custom cooling, OC to 4,5 Ghz.

Would you upgrade to 4790k? It'd cost me about 100$, including the cash I'd get for my 4690k.

The rest of my rig: 1080GTX, 8GB RAM (2400mhz), 650W EVGA G2 PSU, and my gaming resolution is 3440x1440 in 100hz.

I'm only interested in noticeable improvement

an alternative is to upgrade the whole mobo+CPU+RAM to nextgen, somewhere around next year, since I plan to keep the GPU until the successor of Volta.

Thanks guys. I guess that settles it - i7-4790K would be a waste of money at this point.

What about the RAM, though? Last year, IIRC no games used more than 6 GB, did something change? :)

I did the same move last week. I was on a 4690k running at 4.2GHz and moved to a 4790k that goes to 4.6GHz fairly easily. I got £150 for the 4690k on eBay and bought the 4790k for £200. I didn't think £50 was bad for the upgrade as I figured it would make my PC last a bit longer before I needed a proper upgrade.
