Should I upgrade to Corsair H100i??

Hi Guys,

I have a Overclocked i7 930 running at 4GHz on 1.28V. I currently have a Thermalright Silver Arrow installed and the idle temp is about 38C ish. My current config is shown in the picture.

Anyone know if It would be worth upgrading to a H100i? As I'm not sure if my temp will drop but I know for sure that it would be easier up keep on a H100i as the pressure bolt on the SA is a pain in the arse!

Cheers.

Am running an i2700k @ 4.3 in a phantom case - cooler is a Corsair H60 with an Apache fan pushing air through the radiator and out the case at the back.

Idle temp is 27c core 0 and 34c core 3.

What temps are you getting under load ? - Mine ,running IBT, is no more than 61c on hottest core (core 3 - what else?).

Am reluctant to dismiss a move to a sealed water unit - not because the cooler performance is that much , if any , better but because such move in my phantom case meant that :-

I could fit a 200mm side fan

The air flow round the board/cpu socket area was much improved.

Noticed also that the sealed unit got rid of heat much better than the air cooler (prolimatech Mega)

Yeh its a Phantom case, one 200mm in the top currently. No side fan due to the size of the SA it wont fit one. I have a Scythe Slip Stream 140mm - 1700 RPM - 92.4 CFM fan installed into the spare drive bays ( you can just about see if under the disc drive in the picture).

The thought of getting the H100i was because I would be able to fit the 200mm from the top onto the side.

Load temps are about 80C tops from what I remember. But thats 100% and was in summer in a stuffy bedroom amb temp of 25 ish.

KISS principle applies... Keep It Simple
Adding pump, hoses and liquid with no big improvement in performance.

When you have a Silver Arrow going to H100i is not much improvement but a whole lot more complicated.

Maybe consider improving your airflow / air management so case ambient is cooler and everything is quieter? Like change case fans to TY-14x series intakes and exhausts speed managed by CPU PWM fan socket same as cooler fans? You can pre-order TY-147 black/white fans right now for £5.99. :D

I believe that I can see what your thinking - H100 radiator in roof , exhausting warm air out + 200mm side fan sucking cool air in ?

Should free up a lot of space and mean that generally (not specifically your cpu) cooling will be better.

My answer to the ? of how to improve air in the case/cool both cpu and gpu was to
add 2 further 200mm fans and move , as said , to the corsair H60.

The existing 200m fam I put into the front space in the roof and I added a bit fennix spectre fan (these are thinner than the nzxt fans which they need to be and simply slip tightly in without any screws) to take up the rear slot - these both exhaust heat out of the case.
And I placed the new 200mm nzxt fan in the side slot and this sucks air into the case.

This combo does seem to work pretty well . The cpu fan is PWM controlled and I have all the others at the minimum setting on the case fan controller. (Just to mention that the radiator for the corsair fouled the rear 200mm nzxt fan when I tried the fan in the rear slot - the bit fennix does not as it is slimmer & I cannot run push/pull on the corsair radiator as then the 200mm side panel nzxt fan fouls the clling radiator /fan block)

Yeh airflow would be 200mm and 120mm on the side sucking in. 2 front 140mm fans sucking in then 120mm at the back out and the h100 push pull out the top.

In response to doylls post. I don't see adding a H100i to be making it more complicated. I had a h50 couple of years back and it was easier to fit and manage than this SA just unfortunately the H50 sucked monkey nuts in performance!

Does the radiator take out both 200mm fan slots? or might you be able to keep the front one?

Should have measured 1st - a quick measure up leads me to believe that you will lose both:(

No unfortunately the dual rad in mounted in the middle of both top fan slots so it would just have the h100 up there. But I have always gone for more in then out is the best way to go.

From that no, but you can install one of those in your sleep. Just fit the mounting bracket to the mobo, mount pump to cpu, mount rad and fans in case, plug in and turn on and away you go.

Can have it in and running in 15 mins. Tooks me ages to get this SA pressure bolt crap fitted correctly without smudging thermal paste everywhere cuz its so damn fiddly.

Overall I'd go for it BUT not because of a cooler cpu but because :-

It should improve the airflow within your case by a fair bit.

Gpu etc will get a nice blast of cool air.

That GIANT cooler will be no more - to me it is one ugly son of ........

AND lastly , and probably most important of all , you get a new toy to play with :)

Cheers for that, yeh I think it may be worth it for everything else. I have noticed my GPU can get to about 50-60 when playing games :/
