Should I upgrade?

I've got a x570 board and a 3900x.

I'm looking at the 5900x, PC is used for casual gaming (some PCVR) and video editing (Adobe). I've given up on a new GPU and have the upgrade itch!

I can sell the 3900x for ~280 so the upgrade will cost ~200...do you think the performance boost is worth it?

I know better gear is always just round the corner but is there a 6900x about to released and does anyone know if this is x570 compatible? (appreciate the AMD roadmap may not be known...)

Any opinions appreciated.

Cheers,

No. AMD showed a prototype 12 core Zen 3 Ryzen with 3D stacked cache on it at Computex but isn't entering production until end of this year, so realistically it won't be until Q1 next year before an actual product hits the shelves.

The 5900X is a good chunk faster in single core than the 3900X, so I'd suggest looking at the Puget Systems Adobe Premiere benchmarks to see if you'd get a sufficient performance uplift to justify the spend.
