Hey All,

The big question, should I upgrade...

I currently have a Opteron 146 CABYE 0540 FPAW running at 2.8ghz for over a year on stock volts, also a DFI SLI-DR motherboard and Corsair Value Select 2 x 1GB PC3200 running at 254mhz for also around a year.

Now everything has been running rock solid for months and I am quite happy with the performance of my system but I realise the value of all my components are dropping as I type this. I will be wanting to play all the latest games next year (will be upgrading my 7800gtx no matter what) so want a system that will do me for another year just like my current one has.

What prices should I expect for my cpu, motherboard and ram and what C2D spec would you reccomend (havent a clue on C2D to be honest).

Thanks a lot, Sam

what do you use your pc for?

i wouldnt upgrade until april 07 or even later with the system you have..

dx10 games I believe are due out in apr 07 and so will more next gen gpu so why not wait until you can use the technology and the prices drops as opposed to having the best but not being able to make the most out of it i.e. gaming wise atm

Well if you're quite happy with your current spec then don't upgrade yet, as said there will be a lot of new hardware coming out early next year in response to DX10 and Vista.

Not to mention that AM2+ CPUs will be here Q3 next year and new & cheaper conroes chips arriving even earlier. If you can't wait then upgrade your mobo, cpu, ram and keep your 7800GTX until DX10 games show up.
