Should I upgrade?

Hi,

My current spec is shown in my sig and I'm thinking about upgrading. I'd be keeping my Coolermaster 840 case, the 5870 (obviously!) and the psu.

Everything else I want to sell to a friend at work (so I can get some of the cost back).

So all I need basically is the CPU, mobo and RAM.

But looking at my current spec, is it *really* worth spending money? I use my PC mainly for gaming and Photoshop. I'm wondering if replacing my 2GB RAM for 4GB would be enough to see a significant increase in performance. I am probably going to upgrade to Windows 7 when it's out, so I'm scratching my head and wondering what to do...

Do I spend £400 on new bits, or just get the RAM?

All advice will be greatly appreciated, even a suggested spec would be a big help.

Cheers!

I think 4GB of this stuff and a better cpu cooler and you could get that e6600 to 3.8ghz. Unless you have the spare to cash to go allout on an i7 setup or i5, Personally id go i7

If I do upgrade I will go for either the i5 or i7, just don't know whether to go all out or not. Surely oc'ing further to 3.8ghz from 3.55ghz is a tiny performance increase?

i recently had the same idea about upgrading my older 775 socket, wasnt worth doing in the end, went i5 at a cost of £220 after selling my older kit, was gonna spend £170 on a quad for 775:eek:, glad i didnt now as it running a lot better than my old kit

something like this should be good, and work out after you sold your older gear it ends up very reasonable.

i don't know if your motherboard supports core 2 quad? if it does that would be a nice boost from your cpu. If it does not just add some ram and leave it as it is. its fairly decent in my opinion

you wont notice much of difference in difference unless you get a better card....but in Photoshop...defiantly you will notice the performance increase
