I am Itching to upgrade Motherboard and CPU but unsure of what to go for and was hoping you guys would have some suggestions or pointers for me.

My Pc is about 3 years old and I've just been upgrading it here and there. Mobo and CPU are about the oldest things in my pc.

My system at the moment is:

  • Case - Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case
  • Mobo - ASUS M4A77T/USB3 AMD3+
  • CPU - AMD Athlon II x4 640 (3GHz)
  • Cooler - Corsair H-50 Liquid cooler
  • Graphics - HIS HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5
  • PSU - Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750M High Performance 750W
  • Ram - Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) x2
  • HDD- Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB x 2 + Crucial M4 128Gb SSD

I was thinking off getting Asus Sabertooth 990FX and a AMD Bulldozer FX-6 6200 3.8Ghzbut what do you guys think ?

I asked on /r/Buildapc and didn't get much of a response.

Edit: Should let you know, My Pc is mainly for Gaming (Awaiting Gw2) but also do Video editing, programming and basic college work.

I had a very similar rig to you not long ago. A X4 640, M4A78lt-m.

I upgraded a few months ago to sandy bridge and my rig has been flying, so much more powerful. comes trhough a lot on games too..

Id suggest the same, ivybridge now though.

If you aren't going to SLI your graphics card the Gigabyte Z77 D3H is suitable for your needs also 8GB RAM is recommended for gaming

I would SLI in the future, So I would prefer a mobo that can handle it so i dont have to upgrade the mobo again in the future.

I currently have 8GB of Ram.

Go with the motherboard that Doomedspeed has recommended which has SLI feature, also the RAM you have is 1600MHz?

If I went for these, When Is the next most likely time Id need to upgrade ?
Also may get the board on friday (payday) and then the CPU in sept.
Suggestions? Yes, no ?
Depends on the games you play and the settings you play on, I would recommend you to purchase both in September

As said earlier, get them both together. Prices tend to move around a lot, so only get them when you can afford to get both. Otherwise you'll just have a useless motherboard sitting around for a month.

The 3570k will keep you going for a long while, at least 3, if not 5 or so years. I'd say. If you do start to struggle in games you can add another 6950 to your system, Xfire. Your PSU will be able to handle it. That would be such a cheap (~£120 SH) but hugely beneficial upgrade.
