I recently purchased geforce 660ti 2gb my other components are the asus p5k with quad core 6600 and 6gb of ddr2 ram! Also purchased a 700 w power supply but I'm still noticing some lag on games! Have a feeling its the processor maybe bottlenecking? I'm not an expert of these should I upgrade mobo and cpu or is just a case of overclocking my cpu for now ?

You could maybe upgrade the mobo and get some ddr3 ram! I think you've still got a great cpu and if you haven't already should look into overclocking it.

So..

-Upgrade motherboard
-Purchase DDR3 ram
-Overclock current cpu
-???
-Profit

Yes overclock your current CPU. If you don't have a aftermarket heatsink then buy something half decent (£30ish upwards). A new CPU, mobo and RAM is going to be £200ish and upwards ;)

Haswell is rumoured to land around the spring time, so maybe you can hold on a lil while longer if you OC. It's also rumoured that Haswell will take 1155 socket coolers, so the heatsink you buy\have now should be good to use when you upgrade the mobo bundle with a little luck.

Actually hono makes a good point. With haswell so bitterly close, you may as well hold off on the mobo and ram I suggested...but I would still overclock your cpu in the mean time into oblivion, so that it starts screaming like a dark angel warrior of the night, so fierce that even howling banshees shudder at the noise and the glass around you breaks from the piercing sound. If you do that, you should see a nice speed increase.

Additionally, if you have money to spare, a ssd upgrade might be a good way to go for now, since you can just reuse it when upgrading to haswell...if that's what you choose to do.

Try overclocking the cpu, the asus p5k is a great mobo for it.

It takes dual channel memory. but it needs 2x1, 2x2, or 4x4 sticks to work in dual channel. id take out 2gig or add 2 gig stick.

ok guys well if i wanted to upgrade my mobo and processor now what would be a decent cpu and mobo to go with the gpu not overly expensive?

If you're going to spend money on a new Mobo/RAM then you may as well buy an ivy bridge CPU/MOBO/RAM instead of throwing money at an old machine which will still see you limited. IMHO

Ok ivybridge know any good specific mobos n cpu thay would be good for value

Value varies dependant on viewpoint and how deep your pockets are :)

An Intel 3570K is around £175 ish (deals come and go weekly)

Or an i5 2500K (previous generation) is a bit cheaper.

8gig or RAM about £35-40 for budget stuff.

And about £100 for a reasonable motherboard (in fact I think OCUK have an MSI mobo on offer with a free CPU cooler to allow overclocking).

Just some rough guidelines :)
