Should I upgrade?

My Steam box setup is a 4790T, 16Gb, 1070Ti job. It’s a great PC that runs everything I want to very well but I’m pondering an upgrade to a 5700 graphics card when the AIBs become available simply due to the fact that I want to use Freesync on my TV via HDMI. Should I investigate u[grading the mobo/CPU/RAM for any reason? I’m aiming for the 120fps mark at 1440p and I’m not sure if the CPU will be a bottleneck or not.

If you play older games that 4 core/8 thread CPU is still good to go.
But for demanding modern games its starting to run out of cores/threads.
And year from now next-gen consoles are coming with Zen2 based 8 core and likely 16 thread CPU.
(same architecture as in Ryzen 3000)
That will certainly start setting new base level for game design.

that card wont do that 120fps hz at that res. you will need a more powerful gpu.i wouldnt upgrade from your set up to that. its still a good set up. leave it a year. then reaccess. your res and that hz your gunna need a 2080ti for that kinda performance. if you want to stay 100fps plus. even then it probably wont do that on that card will full settings.

It’s more the freesync capabilities I’m after than 120fps@1440p - I should’ve made that clearer. Probably the only big name game I’ll play in the near future is Doom Infinity if that makes a difference.
