Spec's
Mobo = Gigabyte k8nxpsli
Cpu = Amd 3800 x2
Graphics = bfg 8800gt
Ram = Geil 4 gig 3200 400mhz
Os = XP 32 Sp2 (i know about the limits on memory)

Hi Fella's
I currently have my 3800x2 overclocked to 2.4 and i have heard about this dual core optimizer from amd, i have also heard about a hotfix from windows to help with dual core cpu's but the hotfix was dated back to 2004 so i presume the latest updates have resolved any problems.

Anyhoo back to the question will the optimizer have an adverse affect because my cpu is overclocked? also has anyone used the optimizer and is it worth installing?

I have come accross a feature of my cpu called cool snd quiet and i am unsure of how to check if this feature is enabled as i would prefer it to be turned off any ideas on how i can check? apologies if this seems like a daft question im fairly new to this game.

I am contemplating upgrading to a new cpu but i dont want to have to change my mobo if i can help it any suggestions

Thanks in advance all advice welcome

Cheers Ninja
I will have a look for it in the bios when i get home from work.

Been looking for a new cpu and it seems the best i can get for a socket 939 mobo would be the 4800+ but im not sure if it would be worth the £50 seeing as im overclocking my 3800+ to 2.4 anyway.

Clock the 4800+ to 3ghz. Then it would be worth it :D

Hi All

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo with a 4800+ CPU. Im not very good at OC'ing but if I OC it more than 2.5 gigs then windows doesnt start up :( Using a Thermalright 120 cooler too. any ideas?

I think I incremented the bus speed to 210mhz...didnt play with HTT dividers or anything else....should I be? and if so any1 perhaps know what are good settings pls?

Chances are if you havent moved HTT dividers or anything then 210 is maybe the max your RAM can manage - knock the HTT width to 800Mhz, and the ram to 166Mhz instead of 200Mhz - then try playing with the FSB a bit.
This guide might be of use, though its not too detailed. Try a few searches around for the same info - i'll gladly help out, but post a new thread when you've tried the above.

Cheers for that matt_fsr, as I said Ive only fiddled with the bus speed. I have 3gig of ocz platinum revision 2 memory at 2-2-2-5 timings....maybe i need to relax them a bit perhaps.....that site looks exactly what i need and reading it now...will post a new thread if no luck there. I say this because my wife will kill me if i need another major upgrade so im trying to squeeze the most out of my system so it lasts a bit longer.....just really annoying when ppl say they clock theirs to 3 gigs lol and i can only get 2.5 :) thx again

eek just read that page and it doesnt explain how to play with memory speed and dividers etc. Im a complete nub at OC so fiddling with these and also increasing volts makes me nervous :(

Wez:

I always install the Dual Core optimiser as well as the AMD driver, even with an overclocked CPU. Don't see any harm in doing so, and i'm sure it may have some positive effect for some games or applications that may have not supported dual core when it first arrived. :)

Cheer's Ozzie
I tend to play civ4 bts a lot so it should help with that game, to be honest thats what i got the extra 2 gig of ram for civ4

Correct :)

@ wez900 the extra cache should help but whether it is value for money even if you overclock.

I have A8n-Sli Premium. with 1 GB of Corsair 3200LL I could run it at 218Mhz 2-3-3-6 with 2.8v. Got it to 223 but was unstable. x12 multiplier with 1.4v 2604MHz stable @ 45C with AC Freezer 64 pro. HT x 4
Upgraded to Crucial Ballistics 2GB 4000: 2.8v 247.5MHz (247 in BIOS) x11 = 2722.5MHz @ 1.47v (1.45 in BIOS) 50-52C. RAM failed 3 times in <8months:eek:.
Now have 2GB Crucial 3200 running at 227MHz ( 226 in BIOS) 2.6v x 12 = 2724MHZ @1.47 (1.45 in BIOS) at <51C x 4 HT chipset & HT voltages at default. System is 99% stable with FAH & SETI running 24/7. Faster was unstable despite setting voltage just below 1.5v & temps getting to 54-55C
So relax timings & up voltage or set RAM to 333 but I found that the increase in MHZ of CPU was offset by the slower ram.
Have dual core optimizer installed.
