Hey, I am new to overclocking my CPU so....

I was just wondering if AMD OverDrive is safe to use? I don't like the idea of auto-overclockers so would be doing it manually. It would ba a lot more conveniant than the BIOS for me.

My Spec

FX-8350

Sabertooth 990FX R2

Samsung 120gb SSD

Noctua NH-D14 Cooler

HAF X

GEIL Black Dragon RAM 8gb

Thanks in advance!

Stay away from auto overclocking utilities. They almost invariably use too much voltage.

My advice is just to find a good guide for overclocking and use that, without touching AMD OverDrive.

OK, but may I ask why? Surely it is adjusting the values that you would adjust in the BIOS anyway?

Think of it this way. You adjust something in BIOS exit BIOS the PC restarts possibly not reaching windows. (somewhat of a safety measure) You adjust something in windows that causes instability and your PC BSOD's (causes more possible damage than not reaching windows will) theres no real reason to not OC in the bios tbh.

+1 unless it is your GPU you are overclocking it is always best to us Bios

learn the bios and overclock through that,it will be far more accurate than any windows based overclocking software

software will always use way too much voltage than what's needed,if you tweak things through the bios you'll get a much better overclock and less volts/temps

theres plenty guides im sure for amd boards/cpu's I wish I could help you myself but I havn't a clue when it comes to amd overclocking
