Should i use XP or Vista?

Hi,

Need to format my OS, should i reformat with XP or Vista?

Spec.

1.8Ghz Opteron
MSI K8N Neo 2
Geforce 6800GT
1gb Geil-UltraX ram.

A great rig back in the day, obviously well ages now, but the vista tool sais it should be ok? is it worth it?

I would plump for XP on that setup - at least you can be confident that it will run smoothly.

Vista may run, but you would probably have to switch off all the eye candy which makes it look like XP anyway

if you have vista then i'd install it but if you dont just re-install xp, theres no point spending money on it until your next upgrade

Vista is by far the better OS, but on that system I would recommend XP unless you can upgrade the RAM. Vista runs horribly on 1GB.

Installed Vista on a similar spec pc and it ran but not great went back to XP, stick with XP for that spec

I ran vista for a few weeks on a similar setup (Athlon64 @ 1.8ghz, Geforce 6600GT and 1GB memory) and whilst usable it did struggle when starting up and using things like visual studio etc.

Don't be silly. Vista will run fine on that spac, I've run it on lower.
