Hi, I'm new to these forums and was wondering if anyone could give me advice:

I will be looking for a new computer to last me through two years of college.

It will be used for work, media creation and gaming.

My question is should I wait for Core i7 or go with a wolfdale based computer. I will be purchasing in either February or should I get one when I finish year 11 in July.

I am trying to keep it under the £800 mark as I will be hopefully paying for at least half of it with the other half coming from my parents.

BTW how long will my chosen spec play games on high settings for, I would love it to last into Uni. I hopefully will get a 24" sometime soon after (finance dependant!)

lol! Your going to be buying a computer in 5 months and you're specing up now? Thats madness. Wait and see whats out come Feb!

To be honest there's not a slow balls chance in hell you'll get a i7 systems with triple channel memory for under 800.

I think your system there should have a lot of life left in it.

But if you want to wait till there are some i7 benchmarks and review you can always do that.

Might help make up your mind. Also your current kit you want to buy would probably have come down in price.

Thanks for the help... keep it coming.
N19h7m4r3 Do you really believe Core i7 will be that expensive. I was hoping it would have come down in price by then.

Also If I were to buy the above spec in Feb do you think it would still play games on high in 3yrs? (1920x1080 res) assuming I get a 24" monitor. At mo running a 17" monitor at 1280x1024

Even if i7 is out of your budget when you're looking at buying, it will surely impact on the prices of other systems. As has already been said, wait until nearer the time to spec a system as things change in weeks in the land of PC's!! :D

Yup, you cant always tell whats going to happen to the computer market, its pointless askign now for a few months ahead! Wait until you have the money then ask

It will still play the games that came out before/6 months after you bought the PC. But anything after that you will probably need to upgrade as games are getting more advanced every year.

i agree that you should wait until february until you spec up then. it will play all games maxed out for a while but then you can always just upgrade the graphics card in 1/2 years etc and that should help you
