Should I wait for the P35?

Hi,

Not a forum I usually visit as mobos are definitely my weak point.

I will be rebuilding my kit during November 2007.

My primary gaming requirement is for microsoft flight simulator, so I need a fast, CPU heavy machine. I will coupling this with a C2D 6600 or better CPU, an NVidia 8800 GTX card, and fast ram (ie >800Mhz).

FYI MSFS only benefits marginally from dual core and even less from SLI/Crossfire solutions, no doubt the 8800 will help, but it really is a CPU oriented application.

So, in the Nov timeframe, do I wait until the P35 market matures, and get one + DDR3 memory + a Penwyn chip. Or will I not benefit from that so should just go for a fast, robust 975X mobo, and save some money?

Thanks in advance.

I reckon the honest answer is no-one knows. It's all new technology and the first is generally not the best ultimately. November is a dreadful time to buy computer kit as it's right when all the shops put their prices up for Christmas. ;)

Yeah I would wait and see what DDR3 does. My personal feeling is you're probably better off going DDR2 with S775 and then upgrading to whatever socket/RAM further down line.

Certainly have a look at the P35 boards, but I would be hesistant in getting a DDR3 one unless it's faster (DDR2 wasn't faster than DDR when it was released for info).
