Hi, i have a bit of money to upgrade now, most probably getting a new monitor (only a 19inch atm) and then a new graphics card eventaully, My ram is fine, the only thing im not sure on is the CPU, which is an E6400 @ 3ghz, My main use of my PC is internet browsing and gaming, should my E6400 be ok for a few months? I cant clock it any higher, since i sort of messed up the thermal paste and when it was at 3.2 the temps were just way to hot.

Cant see why it cant be, unless your Motherboard can take the 45nm CPU's that are due out next year.

The cpu is fine. No need to replace it yet.

My E6600 @ 3.2ghz is a year old, and I'll get at least another year out of it before I even consider upgrading.

comming from someone running an xp2800 and radeon 9000 i think you will get by lol

since you game ask your self are there any games you cant run or run far too slow? i doubt there will be many

nah none, the only thing i need to upgrade soon is my graphics card since im moving to a bigger monitor.

Thanks for the replys, i guess i underestimated my cpu lol.

ive got to 3.2 stable on stock volts, but it runs hot as hell, i need to reseat my artic cooler and put some new paste on though, ill do that eventually though.

according to core temp atm i only idle at about 30c, loads is about 42c, but at 3.2 that goes much higher, and im not sure whether i beleive coretemp, as it gives me the same temp as speedfan which is ment to be 15c short of what the realy temp is.

Wow I'm suprised those temps are great for a value air cooler.

Coretemp is correct as is speedfan, the 15°C offset is only for newer chips (Allandale, G0 cores etc).

Sounds like you got some overclocking to do, aim for load temps of about 65 °C to 70°C under Orthos Small FFTs.

wow cheers, looks like ill keep it at 3.2 after all :)

its at 3.120 at the moment, since my AC7 speed is set to auto, (and i cant set it manuelly due to a gigabyte board problem), it rockets up to 2500 rpm, but at this it sits nicely at about 1000-1500 and the temps range from 30-36 idle, and 45-50 on load which isnt bad.

stock volts aswell.

Heres my 6400 @3.8ghz sorry I sold it and never kept if as a backup cpu.Great chip.

As Big.Wayne and Easy say above, temps are fine and if you get a new monitor and its of the 1920x1200 variety then the GFX card will take more of the brunt so your current CPU will be fine, you'l need a decent GFX card to get the best out of the monitor though.
