Should my monitor be working with this adapter?

I'm prepared to be outed as a total idiot here but i'm not sure what's going on.

Got a 7850 twin frozr, so it only has one DVI output along with 1x hdmi and 2x MDP.

Got 2 VGA monitors to plug in (both with DVI adapters), one goes straight in the DVI of course, now i've got this for the other one. Can't detect the monitor and it just stays on power save mode.

Do i have the wrong type of adapter?

If you'd read the revue with that adapter you'd know you need what's called an 'Active' adapter, one that gives feedback back to the gfx card so it knows there's a monitor connected. You fell into a common mistake, one that really needs more clarification. You ain't an idiot for sure m8 ;)

I did read the review.

While the adapter works for 2 screen setups, it fails to be usable in 3 screen setups. So don't buy this thinking this is all you need for your Eyefinity setup, get an Active mDP instead of a Passive mDP which this seems to be.

I gave the product a rating of 3, meaning unbiased since I don't plan on using this and have to get an active adapter. Obviously it seems to work for 1 or 2 screen setups.

I have 2 screens.

If i really do need an active adapter then that blows. Might as well buy a new monitor for a couple of x the price.
