Should my PC run Oblivion?

i am having real trouble running oblivion on my pc - here are my details:

amd 3700+ san diego
1gb dual value geil ram (2.5 3 3 6) 1T
saphire x1800xt 256gb
onboard sound - asus A8-N SLI PREMIUM
500W ENERMAX LIBERTY

What setting should the game run confotably on
resolution?
AA?

any help would be great

its the grass that kills performance, I think Im going to leave it off and just play the game at a decent fps. tree distance eats a lot of performance too and outdoor shadows use a bit - i have this on low.
 
I would say that pc should run oblivion no problems at all. It runs pretty good on mine, I use 2x aa and bloom as well.

The only thing that might be holding it back might be your ram, as I have 2 gig, so you might look at upgrading that in future.
 
isnt there a performance driver from ati that helps with oblivion?
i cant remember the name of the guy that put his name on it though unfortunately
 
I run it in ultra high and it runs fine. You have a better graphics card than me so you should be fine. I do have an extra gig of ram, not sure what difference that will make.
 
Runs fine here maxed everything in 1280x1024, 2xAA/16xAF+HDR, on a 512mb x1800 XT though, and 2gb Ram. :)

Your looking for the chuck patch, just go to the ATi site, and search for chuck. :)

Same as this guy. Same system too by the looks of things.

I can run it fine with everyhing maxed in 1280*1024 2xAA/16xAF+HDR but use my other monitor which is 1680*1050 so i just turn the grass distance down a bit for a few extra FPS

spec:
3700+ San Diego
Sapphire X1800XT 512MB
2GB Corsair 3200C2
X-Fi sound card
Raid0 Raptors
 
I run at 1440x900, HDR and everything maxed out. In outdoor areas i get about 20FPS and indoors about 80-90.

Only 3-4FPS slower than the 2x7800GTs i used to have
 
Any idea wether or not it would run on a
1.83Ghz Core Duo
1Gb Ram
1600 256mb dedicated

I would guess I would have to take the grass down a notch if it did though.
 
Do not try to get 60fps, it'll be difficult and for a RPG type game not needed.

Have a look at this Oblivion guide and test some different settings: http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html

The performance killer is most definately grass, editing the vaulue for iMinGrassSize in the oblivion ini is therefore the one that can give you the best increase in grassy areas, set it to 120 or even 160, this makes the amount of grass displayed less for a boost in fps, this is also mentioned in the tweakguides guide I linked to.
 
It's HDR that kills it for me, mowing the lawn has little effect :confused:
There's a short grass mod available.
I'm using a high texture mod which really improves distance detail :D
I average 40fps @ 1280x1024 everything up full except no aa as using HDR :( (darn nVidia for inventing something that they cant do properly), impressive for 1800 to do HDR + aa though.
As with other games; using HDR kills my performance by around 65%, but worth the it for the effect :cool:
 
Try disabling soft shadows, I have all the shadows disabled and run fine at 1280*1024, HDR, 4xAF but with several other ini tweaks, grassy areas can still get a little choppy but my god what a brilliant game/graphics.
