Should OCUK forums go subscription only?

I think the ocuk forums should go subscription only, say access for 30 days for £4.99.

This would surely get rid of all the kids and morons leaving only the good people left to post and make a telling contribution.

The added revenue could be used to discount products and run high quality competitions for the remaining high brow users left.

What do you think?

people who'd be willing to pay £4.99 a month for OCUK forums:

I hate it when forums have a paid account option. Hundreds/thousands of users miss out on certain features just so that the greedy owner can get a few dollars in 'donations'. It's pathetic.

It can also create an elitist inner-circle attitde that will be counter-productive to the community.

On my own forum I prefer to give everyone all the features I can for free. Even if I miss out on a few beer tokens myself.

In what way is that a good system? I'd love to see figures on just how many people on this forum use their broadband email as their main one compared to hotmail/gmail/other hosting domains.

Well the idea is that spammers are likely to use a 'free' email domain to sign up whilst people signing up with their home broadband account addresses aren't going to change ISPs if they get banned just so they can sign up again.

It's just a measure to prevent ad-bots really who could otherwise keep setting up new Hotmail accounts every time they get banned.

Digital Spy is the most popular forum in the UK so they must be doing something right (although I don't go there anymore).

Ha I'd be gone in an instant. No thank you. I wouldn't even consider a donation when the forum is attached to a successful business.

How did I miss this thread earlier ?

I think in this case personal attacks should be allowed towards the OP. :D

Erm, no.

I live at home with the GF's parents, I don't have an email account with ther ISP. I have a GMail one.

How ridiculous :p

He is the guy who worked for NHS that prodded around dead bodies for a laugh at work? or am I thinking of someone else, this was posted years ago

You need to get your facts right before spouting such rubbish.
I took my job quite seriously and if you can find the post where I said 'It was a laugh' then I'll pay your Forum subscription fee.
I worked in the Healthcare Careers & Skills Academy as an assistant teacher to around 100 x 14 to 16 year olds and also other kids who came to the Academy.
Because of my job I was INVITED into many places in the hospital including Theatres, Mortuary and Histology so I could build my experience up because I also advised kids on a future in the NHS.
During one visit to Keele I was invited into the cadaver room and asked if I would like to experience what other students do.
During one of our OCUK 'What have you done today' threads I mentioned it to the astonishment of others who had no clue what my job was.
Once again link to where I said 'It was a laugh'?

You talk about kids on here and then come out with that rubbish.

And does anybody want to email me what he actually posted?
