Should prisoners get the vote?

Of course they should. Just because you're in prison doensn't mean you've lost all your rights. A criminal is a criminal whether or not they've been convicted and whether or not they are in or have been in jail. It doesn;t change anything about them as a person at all.

A good read and informative. Doesn't change the fact that for some people (obviously not the author), prison is in some way or ways easier than the real world - and hence not a universally effective deterrent.

i think its the hardened criminals who are unable to live a normal life that find prison easier.

These people cant hold down a job, they cant manage money properly to ensure that they've got sufficient money to pay the rent, and being single, white, and men, they are bottom of the pile when it comes to the housing association list.

Prison acts as a deterrent to us normal people who've probably never doing anything wrong in our lives.

But for those who've been in the system since they were a kid, you might a usefull point - prison probably is easier for them than the outside world.

You could take the american stance - that to put them off prison, you need to put them in a bunk bed, in a tent outside and have nothing other than a toilet . Make them do forced labour during the day and generally make them pay and give them a hard time.

But there's a flip side. These people are bottom of the housing lists, it could be years before they get a council house. Without any sort of real world job experience and a criminal record they stand little to no chance of getting or holding down a proper job either.

So given, no house, no money and no job, what else would we do with them other than have them in and out of homeless institutions / prison ?

I think prisoners should forgo their human rights when they commit a crime that takes away somebody elses.

Prison should be prison, these days commiting a serious crime gets you 3 square meals a day, a TV in your room, a pool table, an education and the chance to chat with like minded nonses, rapists, burglars and murderers. Which is probably more than most of these kinds of people had in the first place. It's hardly a deterrent anymore, more of a paid holiday.

I heard you get daily blow jobs from porn stars as well.

It's a disgrace.
