Should sporting events be postponed because of the war?

Here in the U.S. they have been considering postponing the annual 'March Madness' NCAA Basketball tourny 'out of respect' for those in the war. Personally I think the network who is supposed to show it on TV is afraid of losing viewers to other stations covereing the war, so they and their advertisers are pressuring the NCAA to postpone it.

Is it 'disrespectful' to go about business as usual? Should they change sporting events in any way to reflect the more 'somber' mood of the world? What do you think?

I don't think the war should make us postpone sporting events, no.. we should go on as normally as possible.

Don't often see you in here btw IndyMode :D

Course not. Everything should carry on as normal. Sporting events are a welcome distraction from what is going on outside that event for some people so I see no reason why they should be postponed personally :)

We agree on the war!

Well sort of ;)

Well, most of the talk in here is about football, and I don't get into that much. I am much more of a fan of College and pro basketball, and Ice hockey :)

But because of the finances involved - it looks like that might not happen over here. Keeping my fingers crossed.

No way should the war stop sporting events. If the british soldiers found out that the premiership games were cancelled, they would come back and bomb the FA.

Hearing the result of a game if it goes the soldiers way can help with their morale. It also gives them something to chat about i.e if one of their buddies teams gets hammered etc.

So no way it should be stopped.

I've been around UK/European forums enough to know to differentiate the two. One is Football and the other is American Football. :D Regular football bores me, but I've seen it played indoors and it is much more interesting, it reminds me of Ice hockey on grass :D

No televised occassions should not be stopped due to the war & tbh I agree that that particular station is weary of loosing cash

The only things which will have to be looked at more carefully are the events which are scheduled to take place near the area of Iraq.

CBS is showing the NCAA games as planned thank goodness! :D

I know that almost all the troops from Indiana would have been quite peeved if they were to hear that the IU/IUPUI/Purdue/Butler/Notre Dame games had been cancelled! For most people from Indiana (like myself) basketball is a religion.

Unfortunatly Kentucky is beating up on IUPUI right now, 32 to 16 halfway thru the first quarter :( Gawd I hate Kentucky....
