Should the 6770 lag?

Just put a new ATI HIS 6770 card into a PC for someone, their spec is:

500w OCZ ModXstream PSU
ASUS P5Q-Deluxe
Q6600 (stock clocks)
2x2GB Kingston HyperX 1066mhz
ATI HIS 6770 (stock clocks)
1TB Sata II HDD
Windows 7 x64

This is what I did after putting the card in, uninstalled old drivers, restarted, installed latest drivers off the ATI site, restarted.

Tried a couple of games out like Fifa 12, Driver San Francisco, Sonic Generations and Duke Nukem. All games lagged pretty bad, except Driver - suprisingly Sonic lagged.

I then uninstalled all the drivers, and tried the CD Drivers (which I normally don't touch), same thing card seems rather slow.

Also the Windows Experience Index wont complete, it errors Cannot measure playback performance or something.

Any ideas, have they got a bad card or something, surely the card could handle latest games, they are playing it on a 32" 720p monitor.

Thanks :)

Best thing you can do it get a program like Driver Sweeper that will uninstall EVERYTHING to do with a piece of software or hardware.

All ati software will be deleted correctly, after uninstalling reboot and install the drivers again.

If this has no effect, maybe the card is dying or has a fault.

OR lower the settings in your games as a big monitor like that will take quite a bit of power to run and the 6770 is a basic drop in upgrade/budget card. I run the XFX HD5770 and play all my games on the highest settings, but I use a 19" widescreen monitor (old I know) but it does me

hope this helps

Run 3dmark 06 on it. That should give you a metric to compare too.

I had a similar issue with my 6670 but found it was the motherboard that had gone bad so the CPU score was half what it should have been. Replaced the board and my half life 2 low coast whet from 60 to 160 Fps @ 1080p.

Unless you have know measure it's hard to judge but a 6770 should perform pretty well in most older games.

Edit ... also download GPU-z and check the card is recognised properly and in a full speed slot. Some boards had a bug where the PCI-E may be only recognised at x1

Check the OP, he's running a 720P 32" TV so he's pushing less pixels than your 19" 1440x900 monitor ;)

Its not my setup its my mates :D

I saw him trying rage out and you can see the textures still loading everywhere when he moves around, obviously it is not the most top end card, but at 1366x768 resolution or whatever it is, I figured the games would be good enough framerates.

Fifa 12 is a lag fest :D

I keep saying let me overclock the dam thing but he wont.

I had the same problem with Rage on my HD5770.

Even at stock it would lag and artefact like a ***** on heat! No other game did it, so I left it. Even after stressing the card to make sure it was ok with no errors and updated the drivers.

No idea why, so I just left the game!
