Should this be running faster?

lo guys,

OK i have a second computer and its specs are as follows:

AMD 64 Opteron 146 2.0ghz
1gb corsair ram
200gb SATA HDD
DFI Lanparty NF3 Ultra-D
ATI x800xt PE

Can anyone think of a reason why this is running unbelievably slow?

It took it 1h30m to install windows xp when it should only take 40 max, it takes ages to load to desktop and when opening anything it lags for about 5-10 seconds and then eventually gets there.

Are there any settings i should change in bios?
Any specific SATA port to use? im using port 1 currently.

Id say its something hard drive related mate.

My cheap 80gb sata took 6mins to install windows xp.

Id go into BIOS check your hard drive is ok, maybe download and install the sata drivers from your motherboard site?

The ram is fairly old, but i have also tried it with some newer gskill ram and it runs at the same speed. The ram is running @ 2T timing @ 64 bit with timings of 3-3-7-3.

Ive plugged the HDD into my other computer and it has let me transfer files from one drive to the other and vice versa.

Do you still think it could be the hdd?
