Should we get an NTL line or a BT line?

Hi guys,

We are in the process of buying a house at the moment, and all going well, we should be moving in around the beginning of April.

The property currently has an NTL box fitted. Would we be better off getting a BT line installed, or leaving the NTL line in?

We would get Sky Digital, so wouldn't use cable TV, but would be fairly heavy internet users, and light telephone users.

Cheers,

Mal

I would say keep the NTL. I'm with them for internet and its very good for the price, also I have friends who have a phone line with them for £10/month, free landline calls at certain times.

Cheers guys. Aye i'll be fine with sorting the internet. Looks like NTL then!

Now just to decide unrestricted 2mb or restricted 10mb!!

Cheers,

Mal :)

NTL have the worst customer service ever, but you do get better speeds.

NTL Customer Service used to be dire, but I have to say I think it's improved greatly.

Last week, one of my rental properties had a problem and my office manager is away, so I sorted it. I rang NTL one afternoon, and they had an engineer there the following day. He goofed doing the job, so I rang and compained, and had another engineer there to rectify it within a couple of hours. There've been a number of times recently when we've needed NTL CS for one thing or another, and unlike the 40 minute to 60 minute telephone waits prevalent a few years ago, phones were answered either instantly, or certainly in under 5 minutes. This has included accounts, TV service and broadband support.

I now use NTL for preference over BT because the service has been good, and the value for money certainly is.

However, even with rental properties, I'm talking about a handful of cases so it isn't a large enough sample to be representative. I'm not saying general conclusions can be extracted from my experience. Just be aware that CS is (in my view) a LOT better than in used to be.

NTL Cable tv = Pure crap. Their phonelines though are pretty good. Customer service is non existant. We're in the process of giving up ntl cable for sky, and I'm dreading contacting ntl. In 2005 when I tried to get my phoneline cancelled with them, the process took 4 months, and that was thanks to Ofcom.

BT's phonelines are good, but I've not experienced their CS yet.

Well connect two yoghurt pots with a string, this will be better and more reliable than BT.

I had nothing but trouble with them and my mam has the same problems, as in the connection keeps breaking.

I would say NTL.

Ancient infrastructure which is pretty poorly maintained.
No surprise how shoddy their service is.

depends where you are....
South wales works fine for me on ntl, never a complaint

Been with NTL for 4yrs now, 10mb broadband, phone line, and tv package, and apart from the odd outage ive been very pleased with them.

Customer service is hit and miss, had some very good customer service people and some very bad, but i think that can be said for all companies these days.

Bt Broadband tech support has recently been outsourced to india too so NTL may be the favourable way to go.

Except BT phone line doesn't necessarily mean BT Broadband ;)

Never had a problem with BT, apart from when some spanner in a roadsweeper knocked down the telephone pole outside, meaning the line was down for a couple of days. But as Tolien says, just because you have BT doesn't mean you can't have NTL Broadband, but you do need a BT line for adsl.
