Thought i would make this thread to get a few things of my chest concerning the 360. I got mine recently, just 4 weeks or so ago after wanting one since a lot of my mates got one. Being bang into my online PC gaming it took a while but eventually i felt left out & wanted one.
Now i feel after owning one i can give my Honest opinion on the 360 compared to the PC baring in mind i am an Online player not a single player.
Basically compared to the PC online the 360 is Crap, not even in the same league, not even in the same country or planet to be quite ****** honest.
So if you have a a fairly decent PC (mine is still AGP) & are thinking about buying a 360 then Don't.
Player count on the 360 is pathetic, No server choice & not even any dedi servers so no choosing Low ping servers just take whatever you are slung, matchmaking suxs Ho Chi Mings **** & that's without putting up with over exuberant young yanks & there squeaky voices. The whole thing is a complete disappointment, So much so that i have gone back to BF2 on my PC & have played that again daily for the last 3 weeks. I don't think my 360 has been on for over a week. The only game that has been any good out of the 5 i have tried is COD4 but then that is spoilt by 8v8 matches instead of the up to 50 on PC. My live ran out on the 2nd of Jan & even though my bank is next door to the gaming shop i didn't bother going in & getting a months sub.
All i can say is if a 360 suits you & your gaming style then fair play to you it is a Great little box & plays games really well. The controller is Superb & not having to worry whether the games will work on it is a breath of fresh air compared to the tweaking you have to do on a PC to get it to run at its best.
This thread is not for you, This thread is for those guys who have a half decent PC & are wondering whether to get a 360 like i did. To them i say Save your money & spend it on your PC as Online PC gaming Pawns online 360 gaming in Every single way.

Lets not have a Flame fest, This is just my own personal experience & may help others to make a decision one way or the other. Once again bare in mind i am a Big Map, Big player count choose your own Low ping server kind of gamer.
For comparison my system is AGP pulls around 8k on 3D05.

Never considered going to console, love the PC too much...;) Expensive hobby what with all the PC upgrades but look at what the PC has to offer in the way of Graphics/Games and online Gaming...:D

It is actually around the same kind of price as a console when you take into account buying games.
PC games are ~£20
Console games are ~£40

If you are a regular gamer then the PC upgrades pay for themselves, as you only really need to pay £250 a year for a new GFX card, and new CPU/Mobo/Memory every two years.

I bought most of my games of ebay for much less than the shop, thats new.

I much prefer gaming on my xbox, live is fantastic.

I still play a few on my pc, wow and lotro for example but mainly use my 360.

I bought a 360 a couple of weeks ago and I'm addicted to it. Not really interested in online though, still playing Forza 2 and Halo 3 single player and got Mass Effect waiting which I haven't started yet.

Expect I'll be back gaming on my PC for Age of Conan and Starcraft 2 and the like. It's a nice diversion in the meantime, especially with a couple extra controllers for when friends come round, can't get that on the PC.

Bought a 360 xmas before last. Played a fair few good games (gears of war, rainbox 6, forza2, assasins creed recently etc) all on my 55" HD tv and was happy enough. Xbox Live was ok for the free 3 months that i used it, chatting via headpiece was out of the box, joining server was easy no crashes but.... it just missed something that the PC gaming offered.
This xmas i've upgraded my PC and have been getting into some proper gaming. FPS and RTS genre just isnt right without a mouse and keyboard. BF2, TF2, supcom each one is just a better experience than that of the 360.
I guess the preference all depends on the person and the size of the wallet. Keeping a PC up to date for the latest games can be more expensive. To me the extra money is worth the extra enjoyment.

I agree, I spend around £1000 on my PC a year. One of my friends has spent near £3000 on his xbox 360 since he got it. Now hes bored and wants a PS3 which he will spend the same on.

I was up town the other week and ready to buy one, after decided to get one i was having a gander at the games selection. and to be honest, the games that were good already had on PC. the games that were on 360 exclusive were crap (bad reviews). I am now waiting for some more interesting exclusives to come. if not then i will get a PS3 mainly for the multimedia.

I got one the other week. I was going to upgrade my computer but I figured this would last me longer as i'm now a student. Also I can borrow a lot of the games out of work or buy them cheap. Same with the 360. If I had to pay full price I think it'd be a different story.

Not really interested in multiplayer on it and I have no intentions of trying it as i'll probably just find it crap compared to PC multiplayer.

After watching my mates 360 do the "red light of death" routine the other night, I think I'll stick with my PC.

So you're saying don't get a 360 at all because you think PC multiplayer is better? There are other reasons to buy a 360 even if you do own a half decent PC.

I think you’re being very harsh towards the 360 multiplayer, it’s not as bad as your making out whatsoever. Plenty of games you can play perfectly well online.

I use both PC and 360 for gaming, this has nothing to do with favouritism but the 360 is nowhere near as bad as you’re making out.

I did the same, bought a 360 loved it for about a month then went back to the PC, sold 360, still have PC. Wouldnt buy a PS3 for the same reason, maybe only buy it for its Blu Ray feature, not for gaming

I've noticed this to be a common problem, too. I could go out and buy a Xbox 360 right now. However I am not that impressed by it. Also, to be it's a waste of money.

Some people say we're wasting our money on computer upgrades. Well, I ask them, "If you spend R3000 on your Xbox 360, all you can do is play games and maybe watch a movie/music" "If I spend R3000 on my computer, I am able to do work on it, watch movies, play games, go on the internet, use programs, hell even online gaming is free"

So, no it's note a waste of money, to be honest. However some will have a different view...

The only time I find myself playing on a console of any description is when mates are round.

Cant beat a few beers, fifa 07/08 and some of your best mates round.

For everything else it's the PC though, any day.

i am going to buy an xbox 360 in 2009 when timesplitters 4 comes out :D. probably i'll just get a 3 red lights one and fix it, sounds easy enough from what people have said.

I had a 360 for roughly 8 months, and only played GRAW & GOW online. Both were laggy as hell 8 vs 8 :(

Unfortunately without dedicated servers you are limited to who is hosting the game, and if their connection isn't great then the game will suffer.

I now have a PS3 (mainly for Blu-ray) and although it doesn't offer a great experience (voice comms is non-existant due to not everyone having headsets) it does have dedicated servers for some of it's games (Resistance & Warhawk + others).

IMO online gaming will always be superior on a PC but the PS3 could make a big impact if they can sort out the comms side of it, which will hopefully improve once HOME arrives this year.

Also like the PC, it's free to game online on the PS3 :)

On the flip side with gaming online on consoles at least it's an even playing feild, often with the PC it came down to who had the better hardware & connection, giving them a better framerate + ping.

Is PC gaming really more expensive? I mean by the time you've bought a 360 or PS3 a decent HDTV and a few games it will have likely cost more than a decent PC.

Once you have your PC hardware there's so many legit free MMORPGs out there. New console games cost 35 to 40 pounds. Where most of the time I see new PC games from 15 to 25 pounds I do see some games for 30 pounds but that's not so common.

People say yeah but have to upgrade your PC every year. Which is bull cack. Yes enthusiasts do but you don't have to. Remeber once you've built a PC more advance than the 360 or PS3 it's always going to be more advanced no matter how many new PC parts come out.

my pc is dead to me now, i have a ps3 and a 360 and im selling my gaming rig and just gonna use my macbook for pc stuff & internet etc.

The only thing putting me off buying a 360 is the errors for systems that seems to be a bit more common than what I'd like, even though that might just be from the usual "intarweb" reporting.

For consoles I like wrestling and racing games that seem to be a bit missing from the PC lately and I'd like a HD movie player with a lower cost than current PC prices. The recent reports of a possible blu-ray 360 made me think twice about going for a PS3 though as usual I don't know if it was just rumour or possible "console upgrade".

I'm happy enough with my PC now though I'm fed up with upgrading every few months so a console is appealing, especially the 360 since it's from Microsoft so should be future-proof for Vista etc. As the previous poster reported the Apple Mac seems nice so I don't know if a possible ultra-light MacBook + console would end interest in PC gaming for me or not, at least from an enthusiast/geek point of view.
