He did - it would have been diminished responsibility due to insanity - and schizophrenic can be seen as 'a type of' insanity.

I am sick to death of the liberal attitude this society has, scum like this should be eradicated with swift and justice. That is the only way to a safer, civilised society.

Don't be given me the old 'insanity' plea, of course he was insane, but he also knew what he was doing was not only wrong, but evil and premeditated. The most humane thing to do is to put these animals down, just like we would with a rabid dog.

The murder rate in any country is related to many factors, cultural, economic, overall population etc. You cannot compare the US with the UK in terms of murder rate. For instance we have much stricter gun control laws, a smaller disparity between rich and poor and are not saddled with some of the racial tensions that plauged the US (although we are starting to get there over here). The biggest factor, I would suggest, is the constitutional right to bear arms and there right to defend themselves with lethal force. If we had the same gun culture in the UK I would suggest that our murder rate would be somewhat higher.

I don't actually care about the murder rate in the US anyway, I care about my country and what needs to be done here to prevent such animals carrying out heinous crimes such as the scum wipe we are discussing. WOuld the death penalty act as a deterrent for lunatics like him, I don't know, but what I do know is this murderer will now get three good meals a day, free gym, free education, free Sky TV and a roof over his head for the rest of his life. We have to work very hard for those things.

As the expression goes, justice doesn't just have to be served, it needs to be seen to be served. A good old fashioned hanging will reassure the public that these animals can be caught and removed from society.

But he *has* been removed from society.

The notion that someone as disturbed as this individual would have refrained from carrying out these attacks, simply because he'd face the death penalty rather than live the rest of his days in prison is nonsensical.

Whatever happened to 'Thou shalt not kill'?

Yeah I'm sure he'll have a fantastic time in prison, I mean it's basically a holiday, right? Right guys?

Some of the attitudes on these forums are crazy, paedophile convictions result in people want to cut the guys wang off, murderers are wanted to be sentenced to death. Luckily we stopped doing that quite some time ago.

If prison is so great, why arent people committing crimes in order to be locked up? Surely that would be the logical consequence of what you are saying?
 
The death penalty is no detterent.

Why not?

Most people who commit horrific crimes do so becuase they genuinelly believe they will not be caught.
