Ok, new build PC with a clean install of Win XP. At the moment I'm just setting it up for use with the stuff I use. Nothing much installed at all at this point, MB and graphics drivers, along with AV software.
While i'm setting up windows the way I use it, getting rid of all the useless (to me) gubbins, like fade in bla bla, I notice a real slow time using the setting, 'Show Desktop Items'. This can take 10+ seconds to complete the operation which is obviously not right. Checking this option either way causes the same effect. While waiting for the Icons to show or vanish, its like the desktop is stuck. I can maximize a window then minimize and the image of that window still remains till the process completes. Same effect when setting some of the performance option settings like smooth edge of screen fonts or use visual styles. Even changing just the colour of the desktop back ground takes to much time.
Fairly sure I've instally all drivers correct and upto date. So what else could cause the slow down of such a simple operation?
