Had my house renovated and took the opportunity to add 4 network sockets behind my tv and 2 by my pc and have space for expansion upstairs.
All these link to under my stairs where I have a small 8u cab with a 16 port TP-Link Gigabit switch, the bridge for my smart heating system and then some network cables out the back to link into my HP Gen8 server running synology and plex.

What do other people have in the cabinets, if they have any and what should i look to add?

24 Port Patch Panel
24 Port HP Gigabit Switch
1U Power strip
- Would love to add 10Gbe when the prices come down for switches and NICS.
- Also If the switch has PoE that will be a bonus for AP's and PoE CCTV.

Loft is fitted with CAT6a (Never want to go down that route again, cable is too damn thick lol)
Rest of the house has CAT6.
Centralized NAS with WHS
BT Openreach modem
AC68U Access Point in the loft
AC87U Router in the downstairs living room

It changes quite a bit, but at the moment I'm running:

24U rack with surge protected power strips, supplied by dedicated spur off consumer.
VM Superhub 200mb
Meraki Z1 Teleworker Gateway (flashed with OpenWRT)
Meraki MR12 (flashed with OpenWRT)
Wireless roaming between APs on above 2 devices.
3Com 24 Port PoE Layer 3 Switch
16 port CAT6 patch
4 ports in office, 4 ports in bedroom. Plans for 4 ports in garage, and installation of PoE cameras at some point in the summer.

Previous to the OpenWRT setup I had a pFSense F/W with a single AP, but wanted to play with roaming to improve wireless coverage across the homestead.

Cat 6 to a wallport in each bedroom and living room. Terminated in cupboard understairs. Builders did it as part of the new-built house. Sales people were "Wossat?" to which I replied "Ask the guy who runs your phonelines, satellite TV and speaker cables"

3 PCs, smart TV and a laptop all running off gigabit.

Wireless AP top floor, wireless AP ground floor (there's 3 floors). These are just repurposed wireless routers.

HP N54L Server running VMWare hosting ClearOS, pfSense and Nas4FREE. Its got multiple NICs to have a "clean side" and a "dirty side".

ClearOS and pfSense between the LAN and a cheap as chips ADSL router from my provider. Why? I have a teenager who likes to ignore limits on internet usage. And I can limit him to times of the day and still have Netflix on the TV. I can also filter by DNS, IP or traffic type. Not that its come to that.

Switching is some Netgear gigabit switches, the ones with the metal cases
that seem to be bombproof. Had them for years 10 or more.

Thinking of putting a wireless AP in the garage, as the car can connect to Wifi for the headunit and satnav updates.

: )

24 port gigabit smart switch
Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite
Ubiquiti AP-AC-Pro

Opted for keystone jacks, so I can leisurely add more ports to the patch panel without having to move things around too much. -colour coded by room :D

All housed in a modified Ikea Lack table.

Have a network diagram but would rather not show in its current state, needs sanitising

Anyway - Where I live now there is not much there, as its a shared house

Where all my kit is, is back at my rents garage where I host my kit, and have a FTTC circuit

Needs a bit of a going over, as I have a Cisco ASA 5505, and 2960 Switch that needs configuring and going in soon

But at the moment

80/20 Grade FTTC
BT VDSL Modem
TP-Link WAN router (being replaced by the 5505 soon)
Cisco 800 Series Router with 4 eth ports
Dell Optiplex SFF - Server (running ESX5.1)
